CLOSE YOUR EYES Debuts With Literary Concept “All My Poetry”

These days it feels like breaking into the K-Pop scene is harder than ever, with more and more groups debuting every month with the same dream to make it big in the industry. With an overwhelming supply, it’s much harder to demand the attention of the K-Pop market, especially with the average attention span of many. So how do you stand out from your competitors in this kind of environment? A unique concept, of course. That being said, it’s easier said than done.

But new boy group CLOSE YOUR EYES managed to do so with their “literature boy” concept described at their showcase. For those that enjoy diving deep into group lore, this new group will be for you. Each song, even the group title, has a deeper metaphorical meaning. Formed through the JTBC survival show Project 7, the seven member group makes their debut under UNCORE and has already gathered quite a bit of attention for their unique album design. In addition, the credits for the songs on their album hold a couple of big industry names that promise quality (we see you ADORA).

Title track “All My Poetry” is a chill, R&B pop track that gives off the calm warmth of spring. The overall vibe of the song has a nice feeling, perfect for the spring season. The song comes off quite soft, fitting for the concept, and the vocal focus drives this home. Even the rap lines are rather subdued to match the overall tone of the song.

As expected of a group with heavy emphasis on metaphor and concept, the music video contains lots of storytelling and metaphorical meaning to match the group’s concept. There are heavy summer vibes in the setting of the video, and it appears to be filmed in Europe based on the landscape. The muted color palette emphasizes soft pastels bathed in light, which adds to a soft boy aesthetic you’d think of in regards to the idea of a “literature boy.” I would definitely say the visual aspect of this debut is the strongest point of it, as the visuals really line up with the concept and paint a sweet and warm picture.
