Going “CRZY”

The music video for “CRZY” was released at the same time as the album. The title track follows Haechan as an infatuated lover chasing someone who is just out of reach. The song is a guitar-led jam accompanied by smooth choreography reminiscent of the works of Michael Jackson. It’s an impressive introduction to entertain new and old fans alike that offers a glimpse into Haechan’s signature style and sound.

Shortly accompanying the music video for “CRZY” were track playlists for each B-side. Each video adds a unique layer of style that captures the overall essence of this funky album. “Camera Lights” whisks you away into a jazz-filled world. It’s a sensual opener to set the tone before things kick into gear.

Haechan puts his rap skills to the test in “ADRENALINE”. The song takes you on a nonstop ride, going from zero to 100 the second Haechan starts rapping. It’s another skill he effortlessly puts to use to add a dynamic punch to what is already a stellar piece. “Love Beyond” is a romantic R&B track that takes some of the yearning from “CRZY” and elevates it to new heights. Followed by “Roll with Me”, Haechan’s vulnerability is showcased by his smooth vocals that glide on the beat. It’s an excellent first half of the album.

“Intermission” doesn’t feel like a break or change in pace. It’s the ideal continuation that carries the listener from one part of the album to the next with its chic instrumental. Haechan’s gifts haven’t gone unnoticed by fans, and the awareness of his own abilities is spotlighted in “Talented”. It’s a hypnotizing melody that not only details his skill to lure listeners in with his voice, but also a recognition that he was born to be an artist. “WYN?” comes in like a ball of fire. It’s an R&B party hit featuring K-Hip-Hop artist Haon. This song is reminiscent of early 2000s club hits with its catchy chorus and danceable rhythm.

The album closes out with “Should Be” and “Grey Rain”, two stripped-back songs where Haechan’s vocals are prominent and passionate. It leaves little to be desired as his soft melodies bring the album to a satisfying conclusion. “Outro (Back to the Studio)” returns the album to form and hints that TASTE is only the beginning of more to come.

TASTE is a neo-soul sensation. From top to bottom, the album is a tasteful proclamation that stands out from the rest. It’s a stunning debut and a must-listen for those looking for something new and refreshing.
