Throwback Thursday: MONSTA X Edition
“Y’all know what it is, man. MONSTA MONSTA.” Yep, it’s time to talk about the one and only MONSTA X. Debuting on May 14, 2015, under STARSHIP Entertainment, MONSTA X is a group full of spunk, energy, and talent. They have been releasing hit after hit since 2015, and their recent comeback, with all the members for the first time post enlistment, is a long-awaited treat that’s incredibly fun. Today, we're taking it back to discuss some MONSTA X tracks that showcase their iconic status.
“HERO” - RUSH -EP
On September 7, 2015, MONSTA X released the song that many know to this day. Their hit song “HERO” is an upbeat, hard-hitting track with a striking instrumental, breathtaking vocals, and iconic raps. The moment the song starts, the instrumental instantly grabs your attention. The gaming sound effect adds bright energy to the track, making you feel like you are leveling up as you listen. The EDM beat, mixed with hip-hop and pop sounds, creates an addictive song. Member Joohoney starts the song with his iconic intro, “Y’all know what it is, man. MONSTA MONSTA. X, X, what, what, what. Okay, man, let’s go.” The moment you hear that intro, you are on your feet and ready to dance. It is such a fun song, and will forever be an iconic track from them.
“Jealousy” - THE CONNECT: DEJAVU
The moment I hear the “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,” intro, I feel like I am levitating. On March 26, 2018, MONSTA X released their album THE CONNECT: DEJAVU, and that album is home to many well-known songs. “Fallin’,” “Crazy in Love,” “Lost in the Dream,” and their iconic title track, “Jealousy.” A groovy R&B track with that well-known hard-hitting MONSTA X EDM sound, “Jealousy” is a fun, danceable track. The song also showcases the electric talent of the members. The vocalists are prominent throughout the entire song, and you can’t help but sing along. The rappers are full of energy, and the moment they begin, you are captivated and ready to learn the rap to sing along. “Jealousy” is my personal favorite MONSTA X title track, and is a favorite for many.
“Love Killa” - Fatal Love
On November 2, 2020, MONSTA X released their jam-packed album Fatal Love, which is packed with hits, including their well-known title track “Love Killa.” An electrifying R&B track, “Love Killa,” is a sensual dance track with breathtaking vocals, raps, and visuals. The moment you hear that “Got room for one more” from member I.M., you are instantly ready to listen to the rest. “Love Killa” is a song that has the complete package to be a masterpiece. The vocals are powerful. Members Kihyun, Minhyuk, Hyungwon, and Shownu give an unforgettable vocal performance. Members Joohoney and I.M. have such strong rap verses, and the sheer force of the rap is captivating and impressive. A moment that really stood out in this song is the iconic vocals run by Joohoney. That run had us all shocked and cheering him on. It’s such an iconic song, and it’s a moment that will go down in history.
