Ever since their stellar debut, new NCT subunit NCT WISH has been on a steady incline with every release they have had so far. NCT WISH is a six-member boy group that showcases the talent of members Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo, and Sakuya. Their overall cute concept is always a joy to listen and the boys do an amazing job at making each comeback unique and memorable. Their new mini-album, WISHLIST, is the boys' first Japanese mini-album. The mini-album has seven songs that are all so striking, fun, and enjoyable.
WISHLIST Tracklist:
“Hello Mellow” (Title Track)
“ZONE”
“BUBBLE GUM”
“Dreamcatcher”
“SOMEDAY”
“Good Morning”
“poppop (Japanese Ver.)”
The mini-album begins with their title track “Hello Mellow.” With a schoolboy theme, “Hello Mellow” is an upbeat, pop track that focuses on how mellow life can be, so we might as well enjoy it. As we said before, NCT WISH does an amazing job of taking that cute concept and making it a danceable song to groove to. Even though the color-scheme of the song is not as vibrant as previous releases like “poppop” or “Surf,” the boys' exciting energy and bright smiles will bring a smile to your face. The boys have a very dreamy tone in this song. Their vocals are always smooth, and it sounds as if they draw each note out to its fullest potential while also maintaining a jolly energy and tone. The song is also very addictive. Throughout the day, I found myself singing, “Every day, it’s mellow. Hello mellow. It’s so mellow. Hello mellow.” It’s a fun song, and from only one listen, just like many NCT WISH songs, you are going to be singing it all day long.
The music video has a very captivating and interesting storyline. Throughout the video, the boys experience things that drain their energy and make things seem mellow. For example, members Riku and Yushi’s table being bumped on purpose caused them to lose their smiles and ruin their day, but as the song explains, you might as well enjoy life. As the video progresses, you can see the boys hanging out together, smiling, dancing, and enjoying each other’s company. The video shows true friendship and is really focused on that schoolboy concept they were going for. A moment in the video that truly had us all excited was the ending, when we say "Cupid NCT WISH" once again. Many fans were excited to see the Cupid concept return, and the moment they appeared, it felt like the plot was continuing once again. It’s a beautiful video with an equally beautiful story.
WISHLIST is a fun release that has a song for everyone. If you want upbeat songs with a more synth/futuristic beat, “ZONE” and “SOMEDAY” are perfect for you. They both have those synth-pop characteristics, like electronic percussion and a danceable electro-funk beat, that give it a futuristic sound. If you want cute/bubbly, then songs like “Good Morning” and “poppop (Japanese Ver.)” are the right choices. Both are super adorable and lovely, and truly take that pop sound and add that very loved, cute concept that NCT WISH has. “BUBBLE GUM” is that hard-hitting track that we knew was coming. Utilizing that signature, striking NCT R&B/Hip-hop sound, “BUBBLE GUM” is that ball of fire that adds a nice touch to the mini-album. “Dreamcatcher” is the fourth song on the mini-album, and it was released before the mini-album. “Dreamcatcher” is a commanding R&B track that has powerful vocals and a dynamic beat. This song gave us a sneak peek of what we can expect on the mini-album and left us all excited for the release.
Everyone, go check out NCT WISH's first Japanese mini-album, WISHLIST, for a fun and great way to start your year.
