YUJU came back with her fourth EP, file. 07, on October 14. file. 07 addresses “unfinished emotions that linger the longest and deepest.” Its title track, “Nameless,” delves into the lingering pain of an undefined relationship, one forever strained. Through this EP, YUJU gives clarity to the questions left behind from an unresolved relationship.
YUJU approached this EP like assembling details for an “unsolved case file,” the kind that remains in the back of people’s minds for many years. By contributing to the songwriting and composition of all six tracks, YUJU ensures each song reaches the depth of what she intends to portray. The EP’s song titles come structured like someone struggling to process their confusing emotions.

Much like most of the file. 07 EP, “Nameless” takes on a sort of acoustic sound that people would hear at a cozy cafe. Except, YUJU isn’t singing about the joys of sipping a warm latte on a cold autumn fall; she sings about the emotional weight a lack of closure carries. Labels often help people make sense of relationships, and she feels lost without one. She isn’t sure how she’s supposed to feel about a relationship that never got a proper definition: “It hurts that I couldn’t give this relationship a name,” YUJU laments in the chorus.
With the “Nameless” lyrics desperately trying to make sense of the situation, the music video follows YUJU as she writes the song. She struggles to give the song a title in the music video, and tries to figure out the right word through the creation process. In the end, it goes nameless.

“What comes after” brings a peppy acoustic sound, like blissfully walking outside a sunny day. The lyrics depict how people easily love and let go without accounting for “how frightening” the repercussions become. “Love Gamer,” featuring JUNNY, comes off funky and seductive. The two soloists go back and forth portraying the story of two lovers in a damaging relationship, where each individual knows how to hurt the other the most.
“SOS” contains the panic that sinks in when a relationship crumbles. The quick percussive beats and guitar strums mimic the sense of urgency and despair YUJU sings about: “As I try to catch my breath / You make me sink all the way down again / SOS, what are you to me?” “Rock Bottom” follows, both fitting in terms of the “sinking” analogy and where feelings might spiral towards. Through this soft rock song, YUJU reasons that once she hits rock bottom, it gives her the strength to pick herself back up after she has “nothing left to lose.” “P.S.” ends file.07 on a bittersweet note as a ballad where YUJU lays out the emotional scars from a relationship. It’s not about the words reaching the other person, but getting feelings off one’s chest.
Many people go through life with undefined relationships that never got a proper resolution. Maybe it’s that friendship that broke off for reasons out of anyone's control. Maybe it’s that romantic relationship where two individuals grew apart due to inconsistent communication. Through file.07, YUJU offers songs that help listeners piece together their feelings so that they don’t feel so alone in their confusion, resentment, and longing.
