After a successful tour across Asia, TWS has returned with a single album dedicated to the strength given by their fans. On November 2, the sextet released TO US with three tracks, including “Call My Name.” The single album’s title doubles as a pun on how the group pronounces its name: 투어스 (To Us).
TO US Tracklist:
“WE UP”
“Call My Name”
“heavy”
“Call My Name”
“Call My Name” follows in the footsteps of “You, You,” which introduced a sentimental concept back in April. “Call My Name” achieves this effect with a fast-paced drum and bass instrumental accompanied with dynamic piano notes. The prominence of the piano, played by jazz pianist Yoon Seokcheol, intensifies this touching, hopeful feeling as described in its lyrics. With members Shinyu, Dohoon, and Youngjae credited as co-lyricists, “Call My Name” describes how fans’ passion invigorates TWS to perform on stage. This message of finding continuous support spreads to the rest of the single album.
The members find themselves in difficult situations such as balancing on one foot atop a high pole, or scaling the walls of a large building in the music video. They persevere with the vocal support of the other members.
The B-sides
“WE UP” borrows from the Miami bass subgenre of hip-hop. In “WE UP,” TWS describes shedding self-doubt before performing in front of a crowd. Though TWS has tried hip-hop before in songs like “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes,” this new track distinguishes itself from past attempts. The choppy spoken introduction, the lingering drum kicks, and electronic pulses of the bass create a song that stands out.
“heavy” offers encouragement through a mix of rock and synth-pop. With smooth harmonies and varied beats, “heavy” keeps the future sounding exhilarating. “The world don’t gotta be so heavy,” TWS sings in the chorus. The track seeks to ease listeners' anxieties. Though not an EP, TO US sticks to its message with just a few tracks. Pushing through the imperfections of life is possible.
