After their stellar debut, BOYNEXTDOOR has been on a steady incline. Their experimental music always touches on many genres, showing just how well-versed the members are. Hip-hop, jazz, pop, EDM, and retro are just a sprinkle of the genres the boys have done, and as they progress in their careers, we are only going to be given more and more hits that experiment with many more genres. BOYNEXTDOOR has released their first full-length album HOME. An eight-song album with back-to-back hits. While listening to the album, listeners experience seamless momentum from beginning to end. The members really put their all into this album, and you can hear it in every song.

HOME Tracklist:

  1. “06070”

  2. "VIRAL"

  3. “ddok ddok ddok”

  4. “ADIOS!”

  5. “Upside Down”

  6. “DIVE”

  7. “Forever You”

  8. “I Wonder”

Before the album was released, we got a glimpse of what it might sound like. BOYNEXTDOOR released a B-side from their album, “ddok ddok ddok,” a hip-hop heavy track with a striking beat and heavy bass. An addictive track with hard-hitting raps and a moving instrumental, “ddok ddok ddok” has a darker theme and is primarily in the hip-hop genre. Just from that one song, we all thought we were getting something different from the bright colors we were used to seeing from the boys, and anticipation built for what the entire album would sound like.

The title track for the album is the second song on the album “VIRAL.” BOYNEXTDOOR particularly excels in retro-influenced tracks. Truly giving that boy-next-door feel, BOYNEXTDOOR’s music is always high-energy and full of charm. With Latin influence/tempo, the song has a moving beat that will have listeners hooked. The track is a love song, and as you listen and read the lyrics, you realize it's a confession of wanting that person back. Throughout the song, the boys talk about how lonely they are without that person and how they hope they go viral so they can get to them. As listeners hear the song, they catch a very groovy beat that gets them moving. The more you listen, the fuller-energy sound that carries the song takes on a melancholy quality that matches the yearning and heartbreak the members show. The members also sound fantastic in this song. Their vocals are smooth, and they flow through each note with a seamless riff. It’s a breathtaking song that I can see becoming a favorite for many ONEDOORs.

The music video matches that melancholy vibe better than the more high-energy sound. The dark colors throughout the video show the angst that we hear in the lyrics about heartbreak and missing that person. There are breathtaking moments when the members are seen in white, surrounded by pastel colors, and the video's ethereal quality catches viewers' eyes. “VIRAL” is a beautiful song and will go down as a well-known song from the boys.

I would recommend that everyone check out HOME. The album is out of this world, and it's hard to pick one song to be your favorite. Go and listen to HOME to hear the many talents of BOYNEXTDOOR.
