A whole new batch of K-Pop releases entered our music streams this month, with many of our favorite groups having made their long-awaited comebacks, finding a place straight into our playlists. With so much to listen to and enjoy this June, here are some of my favorites.
“Fallin’” - ATEEZ
In the run-up to their BST Hyde Park debut in London on Sunday, June 28, ATEEZ released the latest installment of their GOLDEN HOUR series with the mini-album, GOLDEN HOUR : Part.5. Consisting of five unskippable tracks, the penultimate track, “Fallin’,” quickly became my favorite B-side. Layering EDM with elements of trap music, “Fallin’” carries an intricate sound and feeling that takes over the mind and soul as soon as the song hits play. Yeosang's hauntingly deep vocals contribute to the song’s dramatic nature, with him opening the chorus with “I'm fallin’ deep / In you,” which promptly captured my attention, giving me goosebumps, and having me hooked on the song’s sound, never wanting the track to end.
“Revenge” - MEOVV
Following a selection of energetic and empowering anthems in its tracklist, MEOVV's latest EP, BITE NOW, closes with the sleek R&B sounds of “Revenge,” a track that, upon first listen, made me realise just how much I have been missing out on this K-Pop quintet. With writing credits from members Gawon, Narin, and Ella, “Revenge” ignites a dark, moody atmosphere through a simple yet enticing arrangement that highlights the members' soothing and impactful vocal talents. “Revenge” is a strong track that's not only one of my favorite tracks for June but a strong contender to become one of my favorite B-side tracks of the year.
“DIVE” - BOYNEXTDOOR
After several mini-album releases, BOYNEXTDOOR dropped their first full-length album titled HOME this month, featuring eight new tracks that showcase BOYNEXTDOOR's range and vocal talents. The laidback sounds of track six, “DIVE,” immediately caught my attention with this, featuring sublime vocal runs in each chorus that blow me away with every listen. Being a casual listener of BOYNEXTDOOR, I am more familiar with their high, energetic performances but listening to “DIVE” has me mesmerised by their mellow side and exceptional vocal techniques, leaving me wanting more of BOYNEXTDOOR in this particular style.
