Combining a Passion for Books and K-pop Comes The Million Series
Based in Germany, Anja Rudolph, Sabrina Rudolph, and Sahar Ayachi founded InVision Publishing. Combining their love for reading and Korean music and pop culture, the trio is on road to publishing their first series titled The Million Series. The project follows a fictional K-Pop boy group named Millions who was only active for three years, and after a two year hiatus the group is coming back to the industry with their own music label. That’s where the story begins in A Million Beginnings, the first book of the series.
Creating an extensive and exciting world of Millions, the group has seven members, Junyoung, Taejun, Siwoo, Minseo, Aron, Bryen, and Eunkyu. The book finds the seven members as they make their return to the industry interacting with each other not only as fellow bandmates but also as men in a competitive business trying to run a company. To pull your heartstrings, the romance storyline follows member Taejun and the female lead Seohee, the group's manager. The creators at InVision Publishing have created original character designs, background storylines, and brought them to life. In true K-Pop fashion, Millions have their own social media accounts, where you can find member introductions, Facts & Favs, quotes, their fan club "Millionaires", face reveals, music produced for them, and more. The book also tackles themes of mental health, the fragility of friendships, and familial relationships in the backdrop of glamorous idol life.
While such stories have been written several times by K-Pop fans as fan fiction, webtoons, etc, The Millions Series is one of the few and first ones to publish it in the form of a book. A Million Beginnings will be a trade-size book, softcover, with front and back flaps, containing approximately 350 pages and no illustrations. The book will be printed with CPI, Germany’s leading book printing company that provides climate-neutral printing through their cooperation with First Climate and the projects they support. Other illustrations including postcards, bookmarks, posters, etc. will be available as part of Fan packages turning the book into a collectible like K-Pop albums.
A Million Beginnings was launched publicly on Dec 26, 2021 through a crowdfunding Kickstarter Campaign that will run until Jan 21, 2022. There, people can pre-order not just the simple book but also plenty of merchandise related to Millions. Every book will always come with a random member photocard. InVision Publishing is also partnering with The Shiny Foundation, and part of the raised funds will be donated to the foundation. The Shiny Foundation was established by SHINee’s Jonghyun’s mother almost a year after the singer’s passing with the goal of helping youths and artists with their artistic development and mental health. InVision Publishing recognizes how important the issue is in the industry and fan spaces, which is also one of the reasons why mental health is present in the first book of The Millions Series and will continue in the next books as shared by their team.
InVision Publishing aims to create a unique product out of their love for K-Pop and books that many fans share. The Million Series is already shaping out to be a very interesting release aiming to publish in the Spring of this year.
