82MAJOR Returns With Swag and a Global Tour Annoucement
82MAJOR definitely did not “Choke” with their latest comeback. As one of the latest rookie groups that debuted last year, they have just released their first EP and are about to embark on their first global tour. Consisting of members Hwang Seongbin, Nam Seongmo, Jo Seongil, Park Seokjun, Yoon Yechan, and Kim Dogyun under Great M Entertainment, they are the group you need to listen to now. You might have caught them last October with their pre-debut release “Sure Thing,” or their first official single "On,” but they’re back already with their first EP, BEAT by 82, and set to ignite 2024. With an addictive sound, and visuals that need no words, this release marks an important milestone for the group ready to take on the world.
“Choke” embraces a chill hip-hop groove that you can’t help but move to. The video and sound give earlier K-Pop generation vibes with a steady beat and solid vocal and rap lines. The video itself has minimal fanfare, focusing on camera angles and the artist's visuals which suit the song to a tee. The song flows into the rhythmic repetitive “Choke” hook which is catchy as hell. It’s easy to visualize a packed venue with hands up pumping and singing along. The members exude a mature swag, complete with sexy smiles and a bit of skin, which is surprising for a rookie group. This is a bop that will kill the stage. Fortunately for all of those yearning to see this live, you won’t have to wait long, as 82MAJOR plans to visit over 20 cities worldwide in the second half of this year, including North America. Keep your eyes peeled for a stop near you as the dates and cities should be announced soon via J&B Entertainment.
As for the rest of the album, “Birthday” is a sweet song with a solid melodic line which actually riffs on the original classic birthday song three quarters into the song which is guaranteed to melt anyone with a birthday at one of their shows. “Illegal” was actually released prior to debut and a new verse added for the EP per the company. What’s really illegal though is Seokjun’s deep voice in the song. The song follows the hip-hop style that seems to be the backbone of the group. Finally, “82” represents the members who wrote the rap lines for the song. With songs where members themselves directly participated, along with featured writers such as millic, I.O.A, Shin Sein and QM as well as Ryan Jeon and foreign writers, this EP is solid.
With unbridled energy, this is a group that is bound to be fabulous live. You can expect killer surprise stages for a group that might be fresh, but ready to show off their powerful songs so far with not only “Choke,” but “FIRST CLASS” and “Sure Thing.” If you have a chance, look for their M!Countdown performance on May 2 and other appearances as their comeback is well underway. Congrats to 82MAJOR on their first EP and world tour! In the meantime, the fanchant guide for “Choke” is below. Time to learn it to get prepped for their tour. Hope to see you there!
