Jeongnyeon Rides the Awards Wave: Nominated for Five Baeksang Arts Awards After Recognition at the Banff Rockie Awards

Produced by Studio Dragon and streamed globally on both Disney+ and Hulu, Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born is making a strong impact on the awards circuit, earning major category nominations at the Baeksang Arts Awards following its nomination at the Banff Rockie Awards.

According to the final nominee list released on the seventh, Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born dominated with five nominations in four major categories at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards

Director Jung Ji-In is nominated for “Best Director,” Music Director Jang Younggyu for “Best Technical Achievement,” Kim Taeri for “Best Actress,” and Jung Eunchae and Oh Gyeonghwa for “Best Supporting Actress.” The Baeksang Arts Awards will take place on May 5 at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul.

Prior to its Baeksang nominations, Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born was also nominated in the Limited Series category at the 2025 Banff Rockie Awards, marking a rare achievement of securing major award nominations both domestically and internationally. This year’s ceremony will be held on June 9 in Banff, Canada. The drama’s recognition at the Baeksang Awards further heightens anticipation for its international success.

As the first drama centered on gukgeuk (a traditional Korean theatrical genre), Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born gained immense popularity, making it to the Global TV Top 10 based on FlixPatrol rankings. Major international media outlets spotlighted its impact, with TIME naming it one of the “10 Best K-Dramas of 2024” and The New York Times including it in its “2024 Best International Shows” list.

Studio Dragon has also secured multiple nominations for other productions at the Baeksang Arts Awards. Lee Junhyuk and Hyun Bongsik from Dongjae, the Good or the Bastard are nominated for “Best Actor” and “Best Supporting Actor,” respectively, while Study Group’s action director Cho Donghyuk and actor Cha Woomin have been nominated for “Best Technical Achievement” and “Best New Actor.” In total, three Studio Dragon productions, including Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, have secured nine nominations at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards.
