Skincare 101 for Winter

Winter is definitely coming as the weather is slowly getting colder and colder. I know that I have taken all my winter gear out to tackle these cold and harsh weather conditions. When it gets colder outside, your skin gets more sensitive and weaker as it continues to live through the cold winds. Here are some tips to keep your skin hydrated and supple through this cold winter weather.

Moisturizers

First, the most important step in keeping your skin moisturized is choosing the right moisturizer during these harsh weather conditions. Based on your skin type, you have to carefully choose a moisturizer because it may either cause your skin to be too oily or too dry. For those with dry skin, I suggest using a cream to keep your skin hydrated. For those with combination/normal skin, I suggest using either a gel moisturizer or a cream-based one, whether you are more on the oily or dry side during the winter season. Lastly, for those with oily skin, a lotion or a gel moisturizer is perfect to keep the oil and sebum controlled while keeping your skin hydrated. Some moisturizers that I recommend are Belif’s The True Cream -- Moisturizing Bomb, O Hui’s Phyto Vital Water Moist Cream, and Innisfree’s Green Tea Balancing Cream.

Masks

One of the best ways to keep your skin moisturized throughout the year is face masks. Face masks are literally your skin’s lifesaver when it comes to fighting all types of skin concerns. There is a face mask on the market that tackles any and all skin concerns you may have. It is recommended to do a face mask two to three times per week, not every day! If you use a face mask every day, your skin’s condition may even get worse because it becomes too dependent and may even react to the amount of essence and serum being applied to your skin. If you are using a brightening face mask to help your dull skin tone compared to a hydrating face mask, some people may not react to the amount of product being applied on their face, but it’s usually best to not mask daily. Here are some recommended face masks during the winter season: Too Cool For School’s Egg Cream Mask and Innisfree’s It’s Real Squeeze Masks.

Facial Mists

Another essential item to add to your cosmetic bag is a facial mist. They are very simple to use when you are on the go and need to moisturize your skin instantly. During the winter, the strong heater causes your skin to dry up, especially if you work in an office and sit under the heater (like me!). Keeping a facial mask on your desk and spraying it once in a while will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. If not, you can instantly feel your skin getting dry and forming wrinkles, which adds to another skin concern later on. Spraying a facial mist at the end of your skincare routine also allows the other products applied to set into your skin and the skin to take in all of the good ingredients. Some facial mists that I recommend are: Caudalie’s Grape Water Facial Mist, Innisfree’s Jeju Sparkling Mineral Mist, and CNP Laboratory’s Propolis Ampule Mist.

Lastly, you need to be more careful with your skincare routine because your skin becomes weaker and more sensitive during the winter season. Remember to keep your skin moisturized and cover it from the cold winds. Please stay warm and healthy during this winter season!
