Weekly Charts: November 8 - November 14

The second week of November racked in some girl power tracks and solo-focused singles that are topping the charts. Fiery solos and bubbly dance music heat up the season. Meanwhile, new mellow releases suit the chilling mood for this month.

RIDING SOLO

BLACKPINK’s Jennie made her debut with the appropriately titled “SOLO” released on November 12. Through this fiery dance track, the new solo artist expresses more of her feisty aura as an independent woman. After shedding a couple of tears, Jennie presents a new, luxurious life consisting of wearing designer fits, living in mansions, and partying like there’s no tomorrow—a life in which she lives as her true self with no boundaries tying her down. Conquering charts like MelOn and Genie at number one with a Perfect All-Kill, “SOLO” has become a liberating anthem for broken hearts to dance their troubles away.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE

TWICE keeps it simple and sweet with “Yes or Yes” from their sixth EP released on November 5. This fun and energetic synth-pop track mimics the heart-racing experience of demanding your crush to reciprocate your feelings. The nine members take us on a fantastical journey to TWICE Square, where the girls entice viewers with whimsical tricks and attractions that make it impossible to say no to their irresistible charms. Despite all the fun and games, these girls aren’t playing when it comes to love and have no time to hesitate. Currently charting at number two on Instiz and number three on NAVER and Soribada, “Yes or Yes” shows that there are no riddles to solve when it comes to love, especially when our hearts already know the answer.

LIFE FLYING BY

DEAN returns again this year with a more personal story shared through “dayfly,” released on November 8. The soloist partnered with R&B artist Rad Museum and Sulli’s gentle vocals—her first music release since 2014—for a mellow jazz track that pours out his inner feelings. In contrast to his groovier releases, this new song features a more human side of the artist as he reflects on his past and questions his existence, asking himself if he’s living a quality life or just wasting away like a dayfly. Taking the 16th spot on Instiz, “dayfly” encourages listeners to reflect on their own shadows and empathize with those who feel their existence is as minute as an insect.
