VICTON Reflects on a Time of Sorrow in Newest Single
Plan A Entertainment boy group VICTON is back this late spring with new release “Time of Sorrow,” a versatile song that is fitting for any occasion. While the title would suggest a sorrowful theme, “Time of Sorrow” actually has a rather calming musicality to it that isn’t inherently sad, though it can be at the same time.
The smooth ballad has hip-hop undertones that make it more interesting than a simple vocal melody. Despite having a buildup that would bring about the expectation of a big drop at the chorus, the song maintains its soft, calm tone throughout. It presents musical elements you wouldn’t necessarily think would work side by side, though somehow everything blends brilliantly.
The music video itself matches the delicate feel of the song, with a soft light reflecting off the boys as they belt out their sorrows. The visuals of such a happy group of boys contrasts with the more melancholy undertones of the track, further adding to its versatility. There are also darker scenes with contrasting neon lights, which seems to be a trend in videography these days (I’m not complaining!).
We also get glimpses of a well put together and intriguing choreography performed against the backdrop of a perfect night at a summer house. The boys are dressed in soft, flowy white shirts with gray pants to complement the mood. The delicacy of the costume choices are another factor in pulling together this extremely accomplished track in a way that may not seem too obvious at first, though becomes clear with each subsequent listen. The visuals truly add to the gorgeous, dreamy musicality of the song itself.
Whether simply reminiscing on your own time of sorrow or looking for something to play in the background on a warm day, “Time of Sorrow” is a great track for all occasions. I’d love to see a choreography video released for this song, as well. It’s a shame we’re only getting this single release this time around, but if you’re going to go with any track then “Time of Sorrow” is the perfect one to stick with.
