In the mood to discover your new favorite ballad duo? Then look no further than monogram, a group that is a true hidden gem in the K-Indie music industry.
monogram is from SidusHQ and debuted last September. There are two members in the group: Kevin and Riwon. Both are singers in the group, but Kevin also composes songs as well.
In just a short amount of time since their debut, monogram has released a digital single, their first EP, and a few OST tracks as well for popular K-Dramas. These two singers, when together, make sweet ballads that sound absolutely heavenly. If you’re on the lookout for a group who performs beautiful ballads, then monogram is the group for you.
“The Child”
monogram debuted on September 23, 2017 with the single “The Child.” With an uplifting string melody, the song definitely feels like it could be a title track in a drama. The message of the song is about discovering an old childhood diary and re-living precious moments from it, like first dates and amusement parks and summer walks along the river. To complete the song’s message of traveling back through lost childhood memories, the song’s music video features Riwon and Kevin in high school outfits. Their light, airy harmonies are juxtaposed with cute animations and aegyo from the two, making it a very adorable first music video.
“Space Travel”
The duo has continued to expand their sound with their comeback single “Space Travel,” a dreamy, ambient electronic track. It’s the kind of track that is so simple and peaceful to listen to that takes the listener to another planet! Riwon’s vocals on this track are stunning and are accentuated by Kevin’s low notes which give her a solid grounding. The pair work in tandem so beautifully together; each song feels fresh and flawless.
The song’s music video features Kevin and Riwon exploring together on train and on foot, with unique galaxy imagery that appears throughout their travels. The song’s video really shows off both members’ charms, especially when playing little jokes on each other and making silly faces in a photo booth!
“Lucid Dream”
With voices as sweet as theirs, monogram quickly began singing OSTs for popular K-Dramas. Most recently, the group released an OST for Richman, the drama starring EXO member Suho!
But the OST that can’t be skipped is the group’s OST for While You Were Sleeping titled “Lucid Dream.” The word “goosebumps” is the only way to properly describe this song. Backed by light instrumentation, Riwon and Kevin’s vocals are at the forefront of the song’s melody in this ethereal tune. Riwon’s vocals are high and lilting and combine perfectly with Kevin’s powerful yet pleading tone. “Lucid Dream” proves just why monogram should be on everyone’s playlist: they are talented, they can pull off any genre, and their passionate singing leaves a listener spellbound long after the first listen.
