BTS Love Yourself B-Sides
With their North American tour officially in full-swing, BTS has been on our minds lately as our staff waits for our turn to attend the tour stops. This week we’ve chosen some of our favorite B-sides from the most recent album, Love Yourself: Answer.
“Trivia: Seesaw”
“Trivia: Seesaw” is totally the opposite of what is expected from BTS’s main rapper Suga. While his previous solo track was soft, it still focused on rap, unlike this new one where the rapper ventures out into vocal exploration. Suga’s vocals are unexpectedly touching, and he tends to stay either in a range fit for his deep voice or up in a higher range that he hits surprisingly well.
“Epiphany”
Probably our favorite vocal solo from the album is Jin’s gorgeous “Epiphany.” His vocals are perfectly fit for the ballad style he often aims for, and on top of such a beautiful musicality, the lyrics are unbelievably uplifting and important. If you don’t feel emotionally moved by this song, you should probably get your emotions checked.
“Answer: Love Myself”
A track certainly fit to wrap up the entire story of Love Yourself, “Answer: Love Myself” is a bright and hopeful end to an important love story. In a world where we’re surrounded by messages of incompleteness, without having another half, BTS sings beautifully that the answer to all the struggles isn’t another person, but acceptance of yourself. The song is an ode to ARMYs, who have stuck with the boys all this time.
“I’m Fine”
The mirrored image of Young Forever release “Save Me,” “I’m Fine” is a track that contrasts its predecessor by refuting the need for help from another. You can overcome anything with just you, a powerful message we certainly don’t hear enough of in this day and age. You’ve worked hard, and you’re just fine too.
“MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix) Full Length”
It’s hard to refute that “MIC Drop” was one of the best releases of the Love Yourself series, and somehow Steve Aoki made it even better. The only complaint about the original release was that it involved Desiigner, who’s verse was absolutely frivolous and incomprehensible in general. It was an absolute treat to see that the repackage would contain not only the original version, but a full-length track that would keep the intensity that is “MIC Drop” going for a full five minutes. Thank you for this gift, BTS!
