R&B’s Rising Duo G.URBAN Drop Comforting Single “FIX YOU”

If you’re a fan of sweet R&B melodies from Zion.T, Crush, and Jonghyun, here’s your introduction to indie duo G.URBAN.

It’s unclear how long G.URBAN has been around as an act, but the members have been involved in the music scene for a while. Hong Hyeoksu was a participant on The Voice of Korea Season 1, and Na Kyoungwon was on MBC Star Audition 3 in 2013. They’ve also been posting covers on their YouTube channel for four years now. On Spotify, their earliest single “You Who You” came out in June of 2016. They’ve released three singles since, and now, they’re back with “FIX YOU (위로해줄게),” a twinkling song with a comforting message.

Stylistically similar to Zion.T’s “Eat (꺼내 먹어요),” “FIX YOU” serves as a gift of sorts to the female protagonist in the music video. The song is a source of comfort, giving her permission to cry if she wants to. As she goes about her day and witnesses others in tough situations, she lip-syncs to the chorus’ reassuring lyrics—her way of offering a shoulder to lean on. She finally accepts her sadness and cries at the end of the video, but offers a shy smile as if signaling that things will start to get better.

These songs with consoling messages and melodies are popular among young Korean adults. Mental and emotional health are still topics that are not spoken about publicly, so songs like these have a heightened importance. They’re a creative way for artists to reach out to their listeners and to reassure them that whatever they’re feeling, they’re not alone.

On a less serious note, “FIX YOU” is a pleasant tune that’s fitting for a coffee shop. G.URBAN has the voices and musical capabilities to be as popular as the aforementioned artists, and their style becomes more refined with every release. We hope they continue to gift us with meaningful music that connects with their audience.
