Rothy’s Amazing Debut

Make room for another solo artist, Rothy. Her debut mini-album, Shape of Rothy, came out in late August and all the songs have been made into music videos.

Rothy has had previous releases with drama soundtracks and has released two of the songs on the album as digital singles, with the release of “Stars” in November as her official debut.  Shape of Rothy is her mini-album debut and it also marks the beginning of her stage debut on M!COUNTDOWN. All the songs on the album each have their own music video, with the music videos of two of the newer tracks released on the same day as the album. The song that stands out the most is “버닝 (Burning)”, which is understood to be the title track and is the song that is currently promoted on music shows.

Her voice is unique and she has already shown that she can master more than one sound in music, even though she has a majority of ballads rather than upbeat pop songs.

“버닝 (Burning)” is one of the more upbeat pop songs on the album, with hints of a tropical house sound. The catchy beat of the chorus is contagious and the listener can’t help but nod along to it throughout the song. It’s light, and although we are at the end of summer, it fits well as a summer song.

The music video is colorful and has a huge visual and aesthetic theme. Different shades of blue and other vibrant colors such as yellow, purple, and orange are used the most in the video. Although some of the colors might be in the darker range, the lighting in the video is so bright that it does not feel like a dark concept. Not only do we get to hear Rothy’s beautiful voice, but she also has a choreographed part in the video, showing off her talent in dance as well.

As mentioned above, the other songs on the album also have music videos. “술래 (Sullae)” was the second music video after “Stars,” released at the start of June. Following that were the releases of the music videos for “버닝 (Burning)” and “잃어버린 시간을 찾아서 (Lost Time).” Before this album, Rothy has worked with Jinho from PENTAGON on a song to the soundtrack of the drama What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, as well as another solo single OST release called “Butterfly Effect.”

Rothy has shown her big and growing talent a few times already, and this mini-album is just the start of her, hopefully, long career in music. We also advise you to check out the other songs on the album and definitely be on the lookout for more releases from her, as she has just started. If you are a fan of Chungha and Lee Hi, you will most likely fall in love with Rothy as well.
