Five of SKY Castle’s Best Fashion Moments

A gripping black comedy on South Korea’s obsession with education, referring to SKY Castle as one of the biggest dramas ever released is a major understatement. As a realistic drama with impeccable acting and the lack of a cliché romantic story line, one can see why it appealed to such a wide range of people. A full month after the drama wrecked us mentally and emotionally in the best way possible, we’re still not over it. Through the scheming, secrets and mind games, everyone was always dressed to perfection. To deal with our major withdrawals, we reminisce with some of SKY Castle’s top fashion moments.

Despite having her life go through turmoil in the desperate race to get her daughter into medical school, Han Seojin (played by Yum Jungah) always manages to look well put together. From sleek flare dresses accessorized with a neck of pearls to tailored coats and neutral toned turtle necks, she’s part of the top 1% and wants people to know it.

As an A+ student and similar to her perfectionist mother, Yeseo keeps her style prim and simple. A prominent element of the early 00s, we’ve seen hair clips and headbands make a reappearance in the Korean entertainment scene—SKY Castle not being an exception. As part of her tidy appearance, we always see Yeseo with elegant hair bands so as to not have a single hair out of place. We also see Hyena make an appearance with a cute bow clip that just further amplifies her friendly, girl next door nature.

Lee Sooim’s Laid Back Elegance

The natural, albeit very competitive atmosphere around SKY Castle is further disrupted by the entry of a new family and mother, Lee Sooim. Unlike the other mothers, she isn’t a helicopter parent and believes in her child’s happiness, a concept foreign to the competitive others. Her happy, free spirited disposition is perfectly reflected in her style. The complete opposite of done-up, her daily wardrobe consists of jeans, overalls, and oversized shirts; she manages to achieve both comfort and dignity effortlessly.

Preppy Style is Back

While we mostly see the children in the drama in their school uniforms, there are instances when we see their personalities through their regular styles. From sweater vests and button up shirts to bow ties and blouses, their styles are preppy through and through. With the sporty “I woke up like this” style being all the rage, it's a refreshing to see clean=cut, coordinated outfits for a change. As a fan of preppy, it's a change I could definitely get on board with. In mustard sweater vests and beige cardigans, SKY Castle shows us exactly how to dress through the winter in style.

No Seunghye’s Bold Fashion Choices

In efforts to impress both her husband and the other mothers around her, No Seunghye’s style is probably the most far-out. From ruffled blouses and pencil skirts right down to a gold metal belt, it's clear she dresses for the acknowledgement of those around her. While the other mothers dress up, yet make an effort to keep it toned down, she has no intentions of downplaying her fashion choices—this being an ode to the duality of her character’s eager-to-blend-in-eager-to-stand-out personality.

With its impeccable acting and strong message, it's no secret why SKY Castle created the huge impact that it did. Alongside the well-crafted and equally well-delivered storyline, I also find the styling to be truly impressive. Not only does the cast of SKY Castle look flawlessly put together, their outfits also serve as an extension of their characters.
