Welcome to the LOONAverse

Through their unique concept, powerful dance moves, and popularity on the internet, the girl group LOONA is a difficult group to forget.

Who is LOONA?

LOONA officially made their group debut in 2018 under the label Blockberry Creative. The members include Haseul, Vivi, Yves, Jinsoul, Kim Lip, Chuu, Heejin, Hyunjin, Gowon, Choerry, Olivia Hye and Yeojin. However, this began through an 18 month pre-debut project. For this project, a girl would be introduced through a single music video each month. This is understood through LOONA’s Korean name:  (Idaleh Sonyeo), which translates to “Girl of the Month.” Through these music videos, each girl was given a designated color and animal, creating a zodiac-inspired concept that is continually represented throughout their music videos and is a crucial part to the LOONAverse.

Hyunjin: Represented with the color yellow and a cat

Haseul: Represented with the color green and a bird

To further promote LOONA, three of the members, Haseul, Heejin, and Hyunjin, joined the variety survival show MIXNINE. Meanwhile, during the monthly single music video introductions, three subunits would be formed: LOONA ⅓, LOONA Odd Eye Circle, and LOONA YYXY

LOONA ⅓

Sub-unit LOONA ⅓ includes members Heejin, Hyunjin, Haseul, and Vivi. Yeonjin is also said to be a part of this sub-unit. LOONA 1/3 focused on a “purity” concept and have released two albums, Love&Live and Love&Evil with title tracks “Love&Live” and “Sonatine.”

LOONA Odd Eye Circle

The second sub-unit, LOONA Odd Eye Circle, includes members Kim Lip, Jinsoul, and Choerry. Their concept is centered around “girl crush.” They released the album Mix&Match and its repackage Max&Match with title tracks “Girl Front” and “Sweet Crazy Love.

LOONA YYXY

The final sub-unit, YYXY or “youth youth by young” includes members Yves, Chuu, Gowon, and Olivia Hye. Their concept is centered around “four girls who denied Eden.” They released the album beauty&thebeat with the title track “love4eva (feat. Grimes).”
