Halloween B-Sides

Though not as common as Halloween-based title tracks, a B-Side with a spooky edge can really make an impact. By lending a spooky atmosphere or mentioning a fun Hollywood monster, here are some B-Sides to help make your socially-distanced Halloween even better.

“WOLF” by Woosung

From his first solo mini-album WOLF, Woosung’s track of the same name is a short and sweet intro to the album, but it definitely sets the mood for Halloween. Featuring wolves howling throughout the track and an eerie synth beat, Woosung’s smooth voice and the way he says, “Wolf,” in a deep, guttural way will have you wishing this track was longer than 100 seconds.

“Bad Dracula” by Red Velvet

“Bad Dracula” is off Red Velvet’s third mini-album Russian Roulette and is a fun, synth-pop track about being, well, a bad Dracula. Their mom and dad tell them as such, but they just enjoy dancing and partying over scaring and blood-sucking and there is nothing wrong with that! The lyrics focus on seeing a boy and wanting to dance with him over doing the stereotypical vampire stuff, used here as a metaphor for being cold and standoffish.

“Spider” by VIXX

“Spider” is a dance-pop track with a jazzy twist off VIXX’s second full-length album Chained Up. The lyrics compare being attracted to a woman to being caught in a spider’s web, unable to move and escape no matter how much they struggle; they realize she’s no good, but don’t mind as long as they have her. What makes this track truly perfect for Halloween though is the eerie, electronic way the members say, “She’s a poison spider,” throughout the track.

“Jekyll” by EXO

EXO’s first release after Xiumin and D.O. departed for their mandatory enlistment was OBSESSION, which put EXO up against their alter egos X-EXO. Track “Jekyll” is a perfect example of the two sides of the members—they know that second side is in them at all times, wanting to surface and take control, and it’s a constant struggle of keeping themselves in check. The heavy drums and 808 beat only help hammer this in, giving the track an added layer of depth and darkness.
