It’s 5:53! During the “Blue Hour,” TXT is Here for You

It’s been a little over five months since we last heard from TXT (Tomorrow x Together), but they’re back and better than ever with their third mini-album Minisode 1: Blue Hour! According to the members, this album was their way of sharing how their lives changed due to COVID-19—they incorporated their feelings in hopes of sharing the teen perspective of the impact the pandemic had.

The title track “5시 53분의 하늘에서 발견한 너와 나 (Blue Hour)” continues the ongoing trend of unique TXT song titles and is an upbeat pop track that features light synths, heavy bass, and groovy guitar riffs in the background. On first listen—not to compare the two at all—the song really gave off SHINee vibes. The song is one that will immediately make someone dance and will put a smile on the listeners’ faces and brighten up their day.

Besides the title track, there are four other songs on the album. Doubling back to the beginning, the first track is “Ghosting” and Taehyun and Soobin helped write the lyrics. Like the title alludes, it touches on a topic that a lot of us have gone through, being “ghosted” and the loneliness that comes with it. It’s an interesting song to start off with since it’s a little more serious and would technically be classified as a ballad even though the music throws you back to a more vintage era and feel.

The third track on the album “날씨를 잃어버렸어 (We Lost The Summer)” would be a strong candidate for the title track if the current title wasn’t already chosen. The synth and guitar riffs in the song complement the smooth vocals that are so pleasing to listen to—they combine to create the perfect sound for a dance track that would be remixed and played in a club. It should also be noted that although they all do amazing, Beomgyu stood out on this track. He does a very good job in this song vocal-wise and it was nice to see that he got more lines.

“Wishlist” is a bright upbeat song written partly by Yeonjun, Huening Kai, and Taehyun. It brings you TXT’s signature quirky sound while telling the story about trying to find the perfect present for someone’s birthday. Lyrics like “time’s up give me your wishlist” and “what’s the best present” hint at the struggle that they’ve been having.

Wrapping up the album is “하굣길 (Way Home).” This track is heavily R&B inspired and features synth and bass as the main instruments for the beat. The vocals on this track are very well done and the ad libs provide a really nice layer to the track that you don’t hear much on any of the others. It’s a very nice closing to the album.
