“Love Killa”
Stepping up to the plate as the title track off the album, “Love Killa” is suave, a little rough around the edges, but also sprinkled with a bit of madness that makes this song one that cannot and should not be skipped from this album. “Love Killa” is all about that dangerous type of love, one that pushes to the extremes of having intense love or intense hate.
The music video for “Love Killa” is a blend of choreography-focused shots to glamour shots of each member getting their moment to shine in their own respective sets and themes. Red is the main color that is focused on throughout the music video and can symbolize a lot of meanings such as love, hate, anger, blood, which all make their appearance in some way throughout the video. An example of this can be seen in Minhyuk in the white room with the plastic draped over the furniture and spilling red paint all over or JOOHONEY and I.M going for a joyride at night. The hidden-in-plain-sight gem of the music video is the different allusions to films like Suicide Squad, The Dark Knight, and Fight Club, all of which have some sort of theme involving love in a dark way.
The Album
One thing that many can’t deny about MONSTA X is their hustle and drive for the music that they release. This group has definitely come a long way and Fatal Love is a prime example of growth over the years. Fatal Love still has their quality that makes MONSTA X, MONSTA X. But unlike their previous release, Fantasia X, that is much more heavy on the summer vibes, Fatal Love is darker and has a level of intensity that one cannot resist. Most of the songs still take on an upbeat and high energy vibe that is sure to get many moving, but there is a balance of R&B-heavy songs that do slow the album to give listeners a moment to breathe and refresh in between songs.
MONSTA X does not disappoint with the release of their third full album. It is a definite well-recommended album that should be listened to from beginning to end. There will be that gem amongst the list of songs that one can’t help but play more than the others. Fatal Love is worth the listen and it’s curious to see how this monstrous group will continue to shape their journey in the future and continue to dominate as one of the leading boy groups in K-Pop.
