Throwback Thursday: Cats and Dogs

As any pet parent knows, life wouldn’t be nearly as great without our furry friends. With so many K-Pop artists’ cats and dogs stealing the spotlight from their owners, it’s no wonder that some of our favorite fluffy companions have inspired some of our favorite songs.

“Cat’s Waltz” - ONF

From their 2017 debut album ON/OFF, ONF released B-side “Cat’s Waltz.” Filled with lo-fi R&B vibes and plenty of cute kitty meows, this relaxing song makes for the perfect ending to the album. Check out the group’s fun playground version video of the song below for maximum serotonin.

“woo ah” - Crush

An unexpected furry-friend influence, Crush’s “woo ah” from 2016’s Interlude is actually inspired by his dog Doyou. During a guest appearance on Master in the House, the R&B singer shared that the lyrics are actually based on his fluffy companion and with one glance at the lyrics, it’s hard to miss.

“Cat” - NELL

All the way back in 2003, NELL released their album Let It Rain and with it, their song “Cat.” The song sounds like everything you’d expect an early 2000s rock hit about heartbreak to sound like. With Kim Jongwan’s lovelorn vocals and angsty guitars galore, “Cat” is sure to comfort you on the days when you need it most, just like your favorite fuzzy partner in crime.

“PITAPAT (DKDK)” - fromis_9

Released as the single off their mini-album To. Day, fromis_9’s “PITAPAT” doesn’t technically have anything to do with cats, but the video for the song is positively littered with furry felines. From the storyline to endless cat cameos to the girls even impersonating cats themselves, this video will please cat lovers and fromis lovers alike.

“Woof Woof” - SHINee

I’d be remiss if I didn’t include SHINee’s famous “Woof Woof” on this list. From 2015’s unforgettable Odd, “Woof Woof” is SHINee at their most fun. From iconic lines like Key’s “This is real brass by the way” to Onew’s and Jonghyun’s characteristic jaw-dropping vocals, to one of the industry’s most infectious beats, “Woof Woof” has it all, including one of the cutest stages in K-Pop.
