GIRLKIND Is Back With New Single

GIRLKIND has been around since 2018, yet this latest single marks only their third release in that time. In such a competitive market, having such a small discography makes it difficult for the group to get exposure, but even so, these talented girls deserve a chance to shine and gain your attention. 

Their latest single “FUTURE” only involves four of five members and takes a different approach than their other two singles. While debut single “FANCI” showcased a modern hip-hop side to the quintet, first comeback “S.O.R.R.Y” lacked any sort of impact for the bland lyrics and generic pop beat. It’s hard to fault the girls for this, as it’s definitely something controlled by the company, so it was a bit difficult to predict what would be coming next after they chose two concepts that were in stark contrast to each other.

It was pretty obvious that this was going to be a futuristic concept, but what type of sound would come from it was less clear. With a futuristic melody accompanying a catchy EDM beat, the single was far more promising upon first listen than “S.O.R.R.Y.” However, the mixing probably could have been done better and placed a heavier impact on potential drops in the song. There is a rather interesting key change that adds some charm, though it did feel a bit spontaneous. Regardless of any criticisms on the song, it has far more potential than their last comeback, which is promising. The girls have charming vocals and well-paced raps, so any lack of success has nothing to do with a lack of talent from the members.

The song is more promising than the music video. The video is simple, with some solo shots of each of the girls and the use of robotic angles, followed by simple choreography shots. It is nice that the concept is well-maintained both in the fashion and the way shots are taken of individual members. The track is quite catchy, so be sure to give these girls some love!
