Wonho Triumphantly Returns With English Single “Losing You”

After a painfully long 10 months, Wonho has officially returned to the entertainment world with his pre-release track titled “Losing You.” It marks his new beginning as a soloist with Highline Entertainment. While fans have been left with more questions than answers by the companies at large, Wonho makes it clear how he feels in his latest release. “Losing You” provides a little taste of what is to come with his first mini-album, Love Synonym Pt 1: Right for Me, set to be released September 4.

The Song

The most noticeable aspect is that the entire song is in English, a feat that isn’t uncommon for Wonho as he participated in the production of several English singles before. His soulful, emotional tone expresses his feelings alongside impactful lyrics. The chorus really hits home with the line “Losing me is better than losing you.” The song’s overall message is about how Wonho would rather give up himself than lose his fans. This type of message is hard to pull off without sounding cheesy. However, Wonho is able to convey it with such sincerity it will bring a tear to your eye.

The Music Video

The music video is shot almost entirely in black and white except for a few scenes with splashes of red and blue. These brief shots of color really do stand out, causing the viewer’s eye to drift to them almost immediately. This sporadic use is definitely intentional. Another intentional part of the music video is the use of water. The shower, puddles, and rainstorms can all be thought of as a “cleansing,” allowing Wonho to really own his new start. One of the very first shots will immediately have you in tears as Wonho begins crying in the shot. The most impactful of the scenes is at the very end when Wonho is staring into the ocean of lights. The overall imagery of the music video speaks to Wonho’s attention to detail as an artist. It is minimal yet impactful—a combination few artists have been able to master.

Final Thoughts

This song really has a strong statement behind it. It shows Wenee how Wonho feels about them and about his new start. Wonho, as a soloist, proves he is not one to be underestimated.
