Be Empowered with Dreamcatcher & ITZY

August has been a busy month for K-Pop fans with a number of comebacks, projects, and debuts. The month has been further crowned with several notable groups returning, including Dreamcatcher and ITZY. These girl groups have different music styles and concepts but have one thing in common: their girl power pride. Both groups have always been bold with their concepts and never fail to address women empowerment and self-love in their songs.

For this week, The Kraze is bringing you a few hand picked B-Sides from the groups’ latest mini-albums to help you feel empowered.

“Don’t Give a What”

“Don’t Give a What” is one of the strong tracks on ITZY’s album that blazes the trail with high energy from the beginning. With sound alarms and solid guitar chords, the instrumentals instantly leave a strong impression on listeners. The song boasts about being oneself regardless of discouraging comments. The lyrics are rich with enthusiasm and confidence as the members sing, “It doesn’t matter if everyone says you’re wrong. We are all right.” The repetitive chorus and tag-line, “Don’t Give a What,” is prone to get stuck in the listener’s head and stay on repeat. With an addictive tune and a powerful self-acceptance message, the song scores as a perfect girl power anthem.

“Break The Wall”

“Break The Wall” is one of Dreamcatcher’s strongest B-Sides, sounding as fearless and bold as a title track. With a grand rock instrumental opening, the song begins with revolutionary verses. “Come on, break the wall that you protected till now. Fight it with all your strength, defeat those hardships. Come on, save your world,” sings the chorus, urging the listener to break the walls and chains that keep them from achieving their dreams. “Even this moment keeps crumbling, the light was all taken by darkness, rise again,” raps Dami, telling the listener to never give up while SuA sings, “Don’t be afraid. Don’t lose your faith, run no more.” The entire song is a powerful message and the lyrics are highly empowering.

“iD”

“iD” is a fun song that is light with peppy beats. The members of ITZY radiate bubbly energy as they decide to confess their love to their crush. With no regrets, the members are confident in confessing their feelings. Despite being a love song, the lyrics carry a hidden message of being confident in oneself as Lia sings, “Look carefully, my confident walking, my way to runway, tell me yours and I’ll show you mine.” With Ryujin often shining as the main rapper in the group, this song particularly highlights Yeji and Yuna’s proficiency as rappers while Chaeryeong’s soft vocals layer the song to make it complete.

“Dear”

“Dear” is Dreamcatcher’s mellow ballad accompanied with a soft keyboard. The song showcases the members as balladeers with gentle and honeyed vocals. The song sings about being in a sweet relationship where the protagonist finds comfort and love. “The more I think of you the happier I become. You taught me that this was love,” convey the equal importance to feel loved and give love. It is a pure bliss to listen to the song on headphones.

“Louder”

With wild drum beats and lively chants, “Louder” opens up as a bright and energizing song on ITZY’s new album. The verse initially begins with a cheeky, “Muah,” from Ryujin, which is cute and quite charming. The track asks a person to be confident about their feelings and confess it louder. The chorus sings, “Louder, louder, shout it out louder. I can’t hear you, sorry, tell me clearly everything you want,” wanting the other person to be bolder. The lines also deliver a message of encouragement as it says, “Don’t be afraid, don’t worry, It doesn’t matter how you look. Show clearly the passion inside of you.”
