Sweet “Ice Cream” Bops To Fill Your Sweet Tooth
Summer is the perfect time for delicious treats, bright colors, and cutesy concepts, and girl groups constantly dominate this category. As summer is coming to a close, BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s collaborative track “Ice Cream” reminded us of just how fun a cute concept can be. So in celebration of girl power and the new release, here are some other female-sung jams that fit this sugary sweet aesthetic from over the years.
HyunA - “Ice Cream”
It’s impossible not to be reminded of HyunA’s “Ice Cream” when thinking of sugary K-Pop songs. Released back in 2012, “Ice Cream” will fill your sweet tooth in seconds. With a cameo from PSY, whose label P Nation she is now signed to, the video is just as colorful, fresh, and funky as the song. With a hip-hop flare, HyunA sings about all the flavors of the cold treat while gifting us with her signature ambiance.
Red Velvet - “Ice Cream Cake”
Red Velvet blessed us with another flavorful tune back in 2015. “Ice Cream Cake” has plenty of sweet cameos, from sundaes, to cakes, to good old cones. Given the group’s name, there’s no surprise that they could tie our favorite treats into a catchy melody, but alas, a classic was born. From dancing at a gas station, to a fun road trip, to relaxing at a pool, the song and music video scream summer. The outfits are just as enviable as the snacks; from school girl plaid to glow-in-the-dark furry coats, the whole concept is pleasing to our sweet tooth.
TWICE - “Ice Cream”
Of course, we can’t leave out the queens of keeping things cute, TWICE. Though it isn’t a title track, sweet R&B B-side “Ice Cream” from their 2017 album Twicecoaster: Lane 2, is just as delectable to your ears as the rest of the songs on this list. The girls sing about love, asking that special someone to melt them like ice cream. If you’re a fan of more mellow ballad-style songs, this track is a great choice for any season.
EXID - “Cream”
In this song, EXID compares love to cream. Why? Because it ruins your body. “Cream” is a single from their 2016 album Street, showing just how sexy can coexist with sweetness. Fittingly, the girls enjoy an assortment of fancy cakes with a sinister storyline unfolding throughout the video. It’s a song that only grows on you with time while perfectly appealing to those of us with unhealthy obsessions.
Given that the summer is slowly coming to a close, reminiscing on all the bops we’ve gotten from girl groups is the perfect way to celebrate. There are many ways to approach a concept, and these girls each give us their own personal spin to a delicious theme. Here’s to more ice cream aesthetics in the future!
