Recharge Your Winter With 1415’s naps!
Indie band 1415 is back with their latest release naps! and it’s an album that’s sure to help keep the winter blues at bay. With a mix of bright pop sounds and relaxed melodies—and even a feature from DAY6’s Wonpil on the title track—1415’s naps! is yet another beautiful addition to the band’s discography (and any winter playlists).
The album opens with “naps!,” a track that balances a moderate pop tempo with carefree lyrics and a simple melody. Built around the idea that life doesn’t have to always be “go, go, go” and that taking the time to rest and recharge is just as important, “naps!” is a song that many people would benefit from hearing. To aid in the comforting message, the guitars have a soft, bluesy feel to them, while Joo Seonggeun’s lilting vocals and Oh Jihyun’s harmonies offer warmth just like the blankets of which they sing. This is made all the better with Wonpil’s entrance in the second part of the song, as his clear, higher timbre makes for a striking dichotomy against 1415’s usual vocal color. Though the song isn’t exactly a slow one and definitely stays in the pop realm, the mix of their voices in the second chorus will have you feeling so at peace that the only logical next step is to indulge yourself with an afternoon nap.
“o why” is the next song on the tracklist and features atmospheric percussion that gives the song a dreamy feel while still having a heavy beat. For a song about embracing sadness while reminding oneself that better days are always on the horizon, the sound of the track fits “o why” flawlessly. “working dead” follows a similar formula until the percussion starts to build and the vocals start to swell, almost like the song intentionally picks up where the message of “o why” left off right before it. “lost,” which was released as a single earlier this year, takes a more acoustic approach than the rest of the album, and shifts the focus from one’s inner self onto someone else. It’s refreshing for the first love song on an album to be four tracks deep, even if it is one about heartbreak. “figure” closes out the album, shifting into 1415’s familiar ballad territory with soaring vocals and piano and strings.
For those who might need a little comfort as the days grow longer and the nights grow colder, be sure to check out naps! and let 1415 help you remember that it’s always okay to rest awhile.
