“Lose”

After the release of “Open Mind,” Wonho surely left fans wanting more after such a steamy and sultry song. The artist does not disappoint by following up with another song that is just as sultry and alluring. However, “Lose” takes a darker turn where in the game of love, he is already in a losing game to his lover. When looking deeper into the lyrics of the song itself, Wonho expresses wanting to leave and escape this love. He knows that in the end it’s futile as he stays stuck in their maze and resigns himself to the fact he’s not getting over his lover or this relationship any time soon. “Lose” is a grittier type of pop song that plays on the influences of the electric guitar that gradually picks up in tempo in the lead up to the chorus. It’s the type of song that will get the blood pumping in listeners the more and more they listen to the song.

Wonho does it again by also unleashing a jaw-dropping music video. To further emphasize the theme of dangerous and turbulent love, there are several scenes of a fight between Wonho and his lover, depicting Wonho looking rather scuffed from the battles he faces as he tries to escape this maze of love. Perhaps the most eye-catching part of the music video is that viewers get to see Wonho and his team of dancers effortlessly execute choreography in water. Whether it be in the pouring rain or almost ankle-deep in water, dancing in water is no easy task. The editing of the music video makes use of grayscale shots that are offset by reds and blues that depict this hot and cold game of love.

The Album

The rest of the album is a rollercoaster of songs that fans will enjoy from beginning to end. Ranging from songs that are much darker like “Lose” and “Devil” to songs about heartbreak and moving on like “BEST SHOT” and “Ain’t About You,” there is a song that someone can resonate with. There are a mix of English tracks sprinkled within the tracklist, which is a pleasant surprise for fans worldwide. One special gem from the album is “WENEED.” As a love letter to his fandom, Wenee, “WENEED” is a song of reassurance, warmth, and joy as Wonho lets fans and listeners know that in every step of the journey, they are in it together for a long time to come.

What Love Synonym #2: Right for Us represents is the journey of recognizing what is right when in love. Whether it is falling out of love, pursuing the chase, or embracing what love has to offer, Wonho offers a beautiful follow-up to his debut album. There is no telling if Wonho plans on a third album in the Love Synonym series, but he does kick the year off on a good note with a wonderful album for fans to enjoy.
