Hyunjun Hur’s First Solo Comeback is Full of Emotions
Hyunjun Hur (formerly known as Hwall of The Boyz) is filling the “VO!D” in our hopeless romantic playlists with his second digital single.
After a year and a half of being on hiatus with The Boyz due to his ankle issues, Hyunjun left the group in October 2019. A little less than a year later, he started his own label Dia Note in August 2020 and released his first solo single, “Baragi (바라기).” And not long ago, HURSHEYs (Hyunjun’s fandom) could see him in his first acting project, playing the lead character in the Korean Boys’ Love (BL) drama Color Rush, filled with teenage love and mystery.
In the closing scene of the “Baragi (바라기)” music video, Hyunjun is floating underwater and the text “What will be on the next page?” shows up as the closing frame. Is “VO!D” the next page?
In his first solo comeback, Hyunjun took a visually darker turn on being a hopeless romantic. In “Baragi (바라기),” Hyunjun experienced being in the friend zone while in “VO!D,” it seems like the timing doesn’t want to work out. The drained emptiness (a.k.a. the void) takes over and controls his life while he is still lost in his emotions. “VO!D” is a hip-hop/pop track with some indie sounds and the lyrics are almost completely in English, just like in his solo debut. The similarities between the two tracks show that Hyunjun most probably found his own style and voice as a soloist, and we can’t wait to see what comes next both in his acting and solo career.
