Get Summer-Ready with our Favorite K-Pop Ladies

As the weather is getting warmer, restrictions are getting lighter, and school is slowly coming to an end, we are ready to prepare for a beach trip—at least in our imagination (please make sure to follow your local health guidelines if you actually get on the road.) To let the spring breeze go and get in the real summer mood, we collected some of our favorite bops from our favorite K-Pop ladies that give off ultimate summer vibes. There is no particular order—just imagine we put the playlist on shuffle.

Red Velvet - “Red Flavor”

We have to start with an obvious one. “Red Flavor” is a refreshing, bright, and vivid electro-pop song with a bouncy beat. The lead single from Red Velvet’s 2017 mini-album The Red Summer is full of summer love and positive vibes. Plus, the fruity music video will definitely get you in the mood for a fresh fruit salad by the pool. And while listening to the other tracks from the mini-album like “Mojito” and “Hear the Sea,” you can easily imagine yourself sipping a nice cocktail by the ocean.

Hyolyn - “SAY MY NAME(쎄마넴)”

We feel like this track is more on the underrated side and honestly don’t understand why. “SAY MY NAME(쎄마넴)” is just one of those songs that gives off major girl boss vibes and will definitely give you a spark of confidence. We are definitely ready to say Hyolyn’s name—and steal her wardrobe from the music video.

TWICE - “Dance The Night Away”

“Dance The Night Away” from TWICE’s 2018 album Summer Nights. It’s a very youthful, fun, dance-pop song with fresh tunes. The liberating track talks about enjoying the moment at the beach, and the corresponding music video was filmed on a beach of Okinawa, Japan. The uplifting song will definitely make you hear the waves, smell the sea, and get you moving!

AKMU - “Dinosaur”

Suhyun and her brother Chanhyuk’s voices will be the perfect companion when you are getting ready for a family vacation. AKMU’s “Dinosaur” takes you back to your childhood, making the song quite nostalgic. Although the lyrics are a metaphor for the siblings’ nightmares as children, the track itself feels more playful and joyous. It was also the duo’s first take on EDM, and they definitely fit the genre well.

(G)I-DLE - “DUMDi DUMDi”

(G)I-DLE’s summer release from last year is a very catchy dance track with moombahton vibes. “DUMDi DUMDi'' will definitely teleport you into a tropical night with its drum beats, and you will find yourself singing the hook out loud the whole day. This song is very addictive, passionate, and youthful, making it perfect for any summer day (or night) wherever you are.

MOMOLAND - “BBoom BBoom”

I am sure we don’t have to introduce this track to any K-Pop fan. Although it was originally released in January 2018, MOMOLAND’s “BBoom BBoom” is a must-have track on any summer playlist (besides, the Japanese version was released in June the same year). This bop became the group’s first real hit and the music video currently has over 500 million views on YouTube for obvious reasons. It’s a very upbeat, vibrant track with a fun and easy-to-follow choreo that’s perfect for any summer gathering.

Moonbyul feat. Seulgi - “SELFISH”

“SELFISH” is an iconic collaboration between MAMAMOO’s Moonbyul and Seulgi of Red Velvet, and is also Moonbyul’s solo debut track! The song puts the word “selfish” into a more positive perspective, talking about self-love. It was technically still a spring release, but the mood of the song fits perfectly for the breeziness of a late summer night.

ITZY - “IT’z SUMMER”

“What’s up summer?” “How you doin’ summer?” “It’s my summer.” Do we need to further explain why this song is on this playlist? ITZY’s “IT’z SUMMER” is a revitalizing and exciting song that will definitely give you the energy you need to conquer this summer, and trying to learn the lively choreography for the track could make a really fun summer afternoon project with your friends or siblings.

HyunA - “Bubble Pop!”

Another classic on our list is HyunA’s single “Bubble Pop!” The track turns 10 this summer and still hits the same—and is still stuck in our heads. This fun dance track made her the first female solo K-Pop artist to reach 100 million views on YouTube. “Bubble Pop!” is the perfect background music when you and your squad are strolling down the streets on your way to a summer night out—or when you just want to feel cool while making yourself an iced americano in your own kitchen (believe me, I’ve tried and have never felt cooler).

SISTAR - “Touch my body”

Oh, the queens of summer tracks. SISTAR’s discography is full of amazing songs that would fit this list, but let’s go with this one for now. “Touch my body” is another track that brings back memories from many summers past—although it definitely fits all four seasons. If you are ready to dance by the pool, this one will definitely get you moving. “Touch my body” is so upbeat, lively, and bright that it will make you want to put on your swimsuit and enjoy a sunny summer day by the waterside.

Jessi - “Down”

Are you ready for a sexy island trip? Well, you definitely will be after “Down.” As expected from Jessi, this track is a bit more brave and open than your usual hit K-Pop songs, and that is exactly what makes it so great. The seductive lyrics and the tropical hip-hop beats of this 2018 bop will be a perfect companion while you fulfill that (maybe not so innocent) summer crush.

BLACKPINK feat. Selena Gomez - “Ice Cream”

Does anything scream “SUMMER” more than ice cream? “Ice Cream” by BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez was one of the best summer hits last year with the five artists’ voices perfectly blending together. The catchy electro-pop collab spiced up with some trap elements is very flirty, playful, and bouncy.

WJSN - “Boogie Up”

This song makes me feel like I’m rollerskating on Miami Beach—but until that can happen again, let’s just turn up the volume on this electro disco track. Although “Boogie Up” doesn’t hit as hard as it could, it is a very refreshing and cheery song from WJSN that fits perfectly for any summer moment.

Oh My Girl - “Dolphin”

Oh My Girl’s catchy release from last year took over TikTok, which means a lot in today’s music industry—although Tomorrow X Together (TXT)’s Soobin might have been a bit of help there. Even though it is not a title track, “Dolphin” gained many music chart rankings. It’s a very fresh and high-energy song that will make your body move and get your mind ready to do some dolphin-watching with your summer crush.
