WJSN THE BLACK Enters the Chat With “Easy”
The girls are bringing sexy back! Starship Entertainment’s much-anticipated second sub-unit, WJSN THE BLACK, officially debuted on May 12 with a sultry and alluring concept.
For this sub-unit, members Seola, Bona, EXY, and Eunseo are participating together to showcase a seductive side throughout their promotions. The girls are keeping their usual positions with Seola as main vocalist, Bona as rapper, EXY as main rapper, and Eunseo listed as lead vocalist and maknae. WJSN THE BLACK is a total opposite in terms of style and concept in comparison to the group’s other sub-unit, WJSN Chocome, but they are sure to win fans over with a chic unit! The unit got their name based on their mutual agreement that the color black fits their style.
The girls are recognized for their main promotions in WJSN, currently a ten-member girl group well-known for their cosmic and magic-inspired flair. The original lineup of WJSN has 13 members in total, with the inclusion of other members Xuan Yi, Cheng Xiao, and Mei Qi. WJSN’s recent comeback, “Unnatural,” stunned fans with the group's chic maturity. Check out the review for Unnatural here.
In this sub-unit debut, WJSN THE BLACK released a single album suitably titled My attitude. There are only two songs on this album, their debut title track “Easy” and B-side “Kiss Your Lips.” In these tracks, EXY lends her expertise with writer credits alongside Brother Su and Lovey.
“Easy” is a dark disco-inspired song that’ll spice up your playlist. The song talks about knowing what you want from love and amplifying the emotion through seduction. Throughout the track, there’s this urge to dance along with the groovy atmosphere. The girls’ breathy and attractive vocals leave a seductive and irresistible impression. The post-chorus intensifies the track’s captivating appeal with the lyrics, “I’ll make it look good for ya.” EXY’s rap turns up the heat with lyrics like, “You’ll get cut with my sweet words, what kind of deceit is this attraction?” As if the song wasn’t already hot enough, hearing Seola’s high note during the bridge will give you goosebumps.
In the music video, the girls are dressed in classy suits with suspenders that'll take your breath away. Their mysterious aura paired with their outfits makes the choreography even more mesmerizing. The girls also appear in outfits that create a storyline with a detective looking for clues from a robbery throughout the video. The golden moments in the choreography include Seola untying her ponytail mid-dance, hip shaking in the post-chorus, and the floor work near the end of the video. Their dancing alone is sure to make your heart skip a beat.
WJSN THE BLACK delivered a successful debut that showcases a rich maturity in both concept and performance. The girls outdid themselves and left no crumbs behind. This is a sub-unit debut you don't want to miss out on. Check out the debut music video below!
