Throwback Thursday: Siren Songs

K-Pop is full of sound effects, with one of the most prominent ones over the years being the use of sirens. Stay on high alert for great music with some of our favorite siren-blaring songs from years past.

“Fire Truck” - NCT 127

“Fire Truck” comes off of NCT 127’s 2016 debut mini-album, NCT #127. A perfect fit for the hottest days of summer, the moombahton-influenced track’s name alone should make it no surprise that this song is full of sirens.

“WEE WOO” - PRISTIN

Sirens tend to go hand-in-hand with danger, but PRISTIN’s debut track “WEE WOO” couldn’t be more fun. The title itself is a playful, onomatopoeic twist on the siren sound, and similar sound effects can be heard throughout the song and video.

“Back it up” - SEVENTEEN

In 2019, PRISTIN’s labelmate SEVENTEEN released their full album An Ode, where the group’s hip-hop team featured their unit song “Back it up.” Filled with spunk and energy, the song shows the rap unit at their most hype, especially with Vernon’s repeated “siren, siren, siren, weo, weo” line.

“EOEO” - UNIQ

2015 saw UNIQ make their first comeback with their mini-album EOEO and the title track of the same name. Another song using the siren sound as its title, Seungyoun helped pen the Korean version of the song while Yixuan and Wenhan partook in writing the Chinese version; perhaps even more of a surprise is R&B singer DEAN, who helped with both lyrics and production.

“Love Options” - BESTie

BESTie’s 2013 song “Love Options” is buoyant and upbeat, but the song starts off strong, grabbing listeners’ attention with loud sirens. Just like PRISTIN’s “WEE WOO,” these sirens sound like a warning that fun is just around the corner. “Love Options” was originally released as a digital single and later showed up on the group’s Hot Baby mini-album in 2014.
