Best of July 2021
Despite comebacks being pushed back and music shows cancelled due to the Tokyo Olympics, Korean music fans were still introduced to an eclectic collection of music in July. Let’s take a look at some of the best B-side songs from July.
“Si Fueras Mía” by D.O.
One of the most anticipated tracks from D.O. of EXO’s debut solo album, “Si Fueras Mía” is the Spanish version of his song, “다시, 사랑이야 (It’s Love).” The soft piano ballad is assisted by D.O.’s lovely vocals and perfect delivery of the language. The Spanish title translates to “if you were mine,” a heartbreaking theme reflected in its lyrics. Read our review of 공감 (EMPATHY) here.
“ICETAG” by OMEGA X
OMEGA X’s second impression was definitely a lasting one. Accompanying the group’s title track “VAMOS” was yet another banger, “ICETAG.” The track was performed live at their debut showcase and features powerful rap verses with Middle Eastern beats, making it an instant summer earworm. “Hey kid, Close your eyes” by AKMU ft. Lee Sun Hee
Quite possibly the best track on AKMU’s star-studded new album, NEXT EPISODE, “Hey Kid, Close your eyes” is a funky retro-pop track with rock influences. Featuring veteran singer Lee Sun Hee, the song juxtaposes the innocence of childhood and the aftermath of war. With a chilling black-and-white music video, AKMU once again forces listeners to think on a deeper level.
“LOVE PARADE” by DAY6 (Even of Day)
A track about loving whoever you want to, “LOVE PARADE” is the last track on DAY6 (Even of Day)’s latest album, Right Through Me. The track builds up with an orchestral arrangement as it progresses and turns into an anthem celebrating all forms of love. Read our album review for Right Through Me here.
