AB6IX Brings us Back to Innocent School Days in “CHERRY”
AB6IX is back with a refreshing youthful concept! Title track “CHERRY” is supported by their second studio album, MO’ COMPLETE. The group explores a new concept and sound, as they tend to be most well-known for deep house influences in their title tracks. “CHERRY” explores a more retro pop sound and diverts quite a bit from April’s release.
“CHERRY” has a very distinct pop sound with a twinge of retro influence, most prominent in the rhythm guitar used in the harmony and brought forward in the chorus. Those who have listened to AB6IX in the past will notice a total lack of EDM in this song. The track sings of a sweet and innocent love confession, making it a quintessential pop song designed to be a feel-good type of track. The bass and rhythm guitar are a very catchy addition to the beat, which definitely bring some extra flavor to the overall song. As we get to the final quarter of the song, a key change kicks in, which also adds more depth to the sound.
For an upbeat and retro influenced song, the accompanying video will naturally be very bright and playful. The video makes use of many pastel colors and places the boys in a school setting, painting a picture of a childhood crush confession that seems like eons ago to those of us long past that stage in life. Where the retro theme really shines is in the bright suits worn by the boys in some of the shots, as well as the diner setting and roller skating rink.
While it is a different type of song for AB6IX, “CHERRY” is a delightfully bright addition to the comeback lineup that will leave you feeling good upon the first listen. Check out the music video for “CHERRY” below!
