FIFTY FIFTY’S Debut Mini-Album THE FIFTY Has Us Lovin’ Them
FIFTY FIFTY did not disappoint with their recent debut on November 18, 2022. Their mini-album, THE FIFTY, features four songs and has something for everyone. The four-member group debuted under ATTRAKT, and members Aran, Keena, Saena, and Sio have voices that blend perfectly together to create a dreamy, melodic escape.
“Tell Me”
“Tell Me” has funky vibes reminiscent of the ‘70s or ‘80s. Even without a music video (though it does have a lyric video featuring the four girls having a picnic), it is easy to visualize a colorful experience. There has been a high resurgence of disco themes within music, and FIFTY FIFTY managed to incorporate it while making it sound original and their own. This song is catchy, girly, and easy to jam to.
“Lovin’ Me”
As a debut song, anything other than “Lovin’ Me” would have been criminal. This song is infectious in the best way possible. The lyrics perfectly describe the healing process of being hurt by love and having to fall in love with yourself while mourning the loss of a lover. The music video is also a beautiful illustration of the loneliness that one feels after a breakup. Seeing the girls go from a dark and lonely place to a beautiful picnic, sharing laughs and enjoying their lives, is like watching the healing process in real time.
“Higher”
“Higher” feels like everything we miss from the 2000s with a modern twist. The lovely tone of the song feels dreamy while the visuals of the music video take you to another dimension. The lyrics seem to reflect love notes sent in high school when your crush consumes every thought you have.
This song seems to be a drastic turn for the album; it almost seems like it doesn't belong. While it sounds like more of a traditional girl group song on its own, it doesn’t really match the concept of the rest of the album. That’s not to discourage listeners away from the song. It will be a perfect fit for those who enjoy EDM, as the tempo is fast with a strong bass. “Log in” demonstrates the group’s range vocally and physically with their intense choreography.
Overall, FIFTY FIFTY’s debut has been a very strong one, especially considering that they have debuted among the likes of groups like LE SSERAFIM and NewJeans, who have been dominating the industry.
