Pops of Color

One thing that is so special about K-Pop is the variety of comeback styles and aesthetics we get from groups. They are not afraid to play with different color schemes, making it extra exciting every time we hear whispers of a comeback. One unique theme for comebacks is the use of  these almost blinding bright filters and colors in the music videos. Not only does it bring a bright spin on a typical video, it can really add to the silliness and quirkiness to a song.

“She is” - Jonghyun

Jonghyuns early summer of 2016 hit, “She is” is an aesthetic masterpiece both musically and visually. “She is” gives an R&B style that is playful, using elements of funk and EDM to capture his audience with the subtle yet bright tune. Jonghyun’s vocals and articulation always brought a distinct style to his music and is the icing on the cake for this song. The music video overlays a stark filter while using tons of colors, particularly yellows and blues throughout the backdrops and clothes on the background dancers, as well as on Jonghyun.

“HER” - Block B

Block B is not afraid to go crazy with the high energy in “HER.” Full of quick raps and fast-paced beats, “HER” is incredibly catchy and is a fun song from beginning to end. The music video perfectly reflects this sound as well as the crazy personalities of the group members. Certain colors, especially pink, are practically jumping out at you with how vivid they are in the video. From the bright colors to the craziness and happiness exuded in this video, it truly represents the giddy feelings of love that Block B sings about.

“Just Right” - GOT7

GOT7 brings cuteness overload that would cheer anyone up in “Just Right.” It is an upbeat pop song with a tad bit of hip-hop to bring the listeners a message that you don’t need to change yourself as you are “just right.” The music video is chock full of youthful colors and silly scenes that feature the members as “doll sized,” like BamBam hanging out with cereal and candies. The chorus features JB singing while driving a pink doll car while their main choreo is quite goofy as well. The positive energy from “Just Right” is addictive and the perfect song to keep on repeat.

“Boy With Luv” - BTS

“Boy With Luv” by BTS is a lively pop song that is easy to listen to and will put you in a good mood when you hear it. The visuals for the music video exude the happiness found in the tune of the song with its pops of color and the joy that the members show in their performance. The main color in this video is the pops of various pinks, emphasizing the love theme. It also takes reference points from the classic movie Singing in the Rain with the timeless Hollywood style of flashing signs during RM’s part.
