Get Into a Retro Mood with Rocket Punch’s “CHIQUITA”

It’s been nine months since we’ve received anything from the girls of Rocket Punch, but now they’re back on the scene with their new mini-album YELLOW PUNCH and title track “CHIQUITA!” If you were a fan of the last release “Ring Ring,” this track will be up your alley as well. Rocket Punch continues to bring the retro-inspired tracks, a refreshing classic amidst so many experimental releases.

“CHIQUITA” is a delightful blend of retro and pop, keeping a modern song style while adding ‘80s retro elements like the notable synth at the chorus. The vocals really shine alongside the driving bass, with all the elements coming together for a pleasant listening experience. Some additional flavor is added just before the final chorus, where we get a dance break and the single rap verse of the song. The retro classic feel is a nice contrast to all of the experimental music that came out this month and is a reminder that sometimes the classics are best.

The video is objectively gorgeous, especially the outfit and aesthetic choices. The ‘80s inspiration is very apparent in the different sets, with neon pink lasers behind the girls executing their choreography. The styling is awesome, with leather and punk inspirations taking center stage in their outfits. It’s not pure punk, as each outfit has an elegant feel, and that contrast makes for a perfect mix. The bright neon colors lend to the upbeat nature of the song and make for a club-like feel, which makes the overall comeback entertaining and upbeat.
