Jennie Becoming the Fashion World’s ‘IT Girl’: A Thread
With 64.2 million followers and brand deals coming left, right, and center, BLACKPINK's Jennie has successfully become one of the fashion world's IT girls six years after her debut.
As fashion week made its way around the world; starting in Copenhagen followed by New York and then London, Paris was the next destination. The city of love housed some of the biggest names in high fashion from March 1 to March 8. Brands such as Miu Miu, Paul Smith, OFF/WHITE, and others who are affiliated with BLACKPINK member’s Rosé and Jisoo, Saint Laurent and Dior, took to the runway to show their latest collections. One of the most anticipated brands to showcase their designs was Chanel.
After being announced as Chanel’s brand ambassador back in March 2021, Jennie became the face of their Coco Crush jewelry line and made sure to make an appearance in Paris this month. Jennie first became affiliated with the brand back in 2018 where she started modeling for Chanel Korea Beauty, which followed with her becoming an ambassador for Chanel Korea. Soon after, Jennie became the first female K-Pop idol to be announced as a global ambassador with Chanel.
A Breakdown on Jennie's Fashion Week Looks
Chanel Girl Jennie
The Chanel show was held at the Grand Palais Éphémère in the heart of Paris.
Jennie’s all-black look for the Chanel show was nothing short of high-teen couture, from the bows on her socks paired with the most gorgeous peep-toe heels, to her braided hair wrapped around her head to frame her face perfectly. Jennie also wore Chanel gold chains and necklaces paired with the brand’s mini purse.
Jennie in Paris
For Jennie’s first Parisian look post-Chanel show, her outfit consisted of a white thin cropped hoodie top paired with a cropped leather jacket. The top half of her outfit was accompanied with cargo pants and platform Dr. Martens boots to finish her look.
Jennie in Hawaii
Jacquemus held its Spring/Summer 2022 show in Oahu, Hawaii where Jennie was seen hanging out with other celebrities like Aminé, Jhené Aiko, and the designer Simon Porte Jacquemus. Aminé’s three-second clip with Jennie excited fans and made a lot of people smile with the caption: “w the queen actin like my mama ain’t feed me”.
Jennie’s all-pink outfit from Jacquemaus served some under-boob, stripes, and tiled patterns, making it perfect for the summer soon approaching.
Jennie in Paris: Part Two
Before Jennie left for Korea, she left her best Parisian outfit for last, and it is my favorite outfit of hers which I'm plagiarizing for myself this spring: an opened shirt underneath the distressed cropped-sweater on top, paired with Sculptor lowrise pintuck pants which mimic underwear peeking from the top. This style of dressing pants that show underwear is one of my favorite styles lately, especially when done right because it can be dressed down for a casual meeting but also dressed up for formal occasions.
Jennie in Korea
Jennie was welcomed back to Korea with the launch of her latest eye collection collaboration with GENTLE MONSTER: Jentle Garden. One of the short promotional clips for the newest collection features Jennie on a London city bike carrying the promotional flower bag containing orange flowers to promote the drop.
The PR packages of Jentle Garden consist of a flower bag holding the newest pieces from the eyewear inside. The tall lavender box gave space for the vibrant flower bouquets to be reeled out through its unique trolley feature. With the flowers held in their woven baskets, as well as the glasses themselves being the main gift, the package is neatly tied together with a bow on top. Many celebrities posted with their Jentle Garden packages ranging from WOODZ to label mate WINNER’s MINO. GENTLE MONSTER also held an event for fans leading up to the drop of the collection, where winners would receive this special PR package too! Through their virtual game ‘Jentle Garden,’ fans were able to create their own flower garden, and the top 10 players each week, for a month following the release, received their own flower bag containing five pieces from the eyewear collection.
The pop-up events stayed on theme with the nature aspects of them, with a built-in garden showcasing a tiny village with flowers blooming, hedges neatly trimmed, with mountains and clouds filling the sky. The pop-ups will be in five cities: Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, and Los Angeles.
Check out the Jentle Garden collection on the official website here.
Jennie’s fashion ventures take her outside of Seoul and have her traveling the globe with fans getting to see snapshots on her Instagram feed. From Chanel in Paris, Jacquemaus in Hawaii, to GENTLE MONSTER in Seoul, Jennie is showing why she is the fashion world’s “IT Girl.”
