Red Velvet Brings the Classics to Life in “Feel My Rhythm”

Red Velvet is not afraid to try obscure concepts and proves this with their latest title track, “Feel My Rhythm.” Get ready to get lost in a dreamy fairytale.

The Song

Red Velvet gives us Bach’s “Air on the G String” as a backdrop to “Feel My Rhythm.” The song begins with a dramatic orchestration that leads into a powerful trap bass paired with that classic Red Velvet sound. The lyrics of “Feel My Rhythm” are quite carefree as they talk about following your gut and how fun and free it is to be alive in that moment. The vocal’s throughout are stunning and flow beautifully with the orchestral elements that are embedded in the song as they harmonize along to Bach’s tune. The rap verses break up these lovely vocals and add a touch of fun to the song. A particularly memorable part of “Feel the Rhythm” is Wendy’s bridge as she captivates the listener with her strong and addictive voice. “Feel the Rhythm” follows that distinct SM Entertainment style and gets catchier and catchier with every listen.

Music Video

The music video is extraordinary as they took so many artistic styles and incorporated them throughout. Ballet as well as multiple Black Swan and even Swan Lake references are tucked into the video through visuals and choreo. Particularly at the beginning of the video, various scenes look as though they have been painted, and there are many art references placed throughout the video too. A few examples include: Irene on a swing similar to The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Joy laying in a river in the same fashion of the painting Ophelia by John Everett Millais, and Irene and Seulgi posing like Monet’s Woman with a Parasol- Madame Monet and Her Son

Each member was given their own fairytale-esque concept for “Feel My Rhythm.” Seulgi’s concept showed a cold, crow-like villain with a black crown of thorns. Irene is in an elegant black dress spotted sitting on a jeweled pirate ship, implying that she is the black pearl, whereas Yeri gives a youthful appearance as she is found wearing a crown of raspberries and flowers while sitting inside a pink pearl surrounded by theatrical ocean creatures in detailed costumes. Wendy’s concept refers to the ice queen as she is alone surrounded by ice, and Joy looks like royalty as she appears from a blossoming flower while wearing a gorgeous pink gown.

Red Velvet does a beautiful job paying homage to the classic period in “Feel My Rhythm” while adding a modern twist and still keeping true to their personal style. Check out Red Velvet’s new video below!
