Suho Colors His Grey World In New Album
EXO’s leader Suho has returned from his mandatory military enlistment, and like the dedicated artist he is, has already released a new project. Following his critically acclaimed debut mini-album Self-Portrait, the singer is back with Grey Suit. Co-written by Suho under his name SH2O, the mini-album is led by a single of the same name and contains five new B-sides.
“Grey Suit” is a progressive rock track that runs similar to songs released by Korean bands like DAY6, HYUKOH, and The Black Skirts. Suho is charismatic as he sings about how a special person can bring color into his grey world, using the metaphor of a basic grey suit which represents his life. The music video finds Suho donning simple yet eye-catching outfits that feed into the song’s narrative and message, and also features artsy post-production visual effects.
The B-sides pair with “Grey Suit” to tell a story of how, step by step, the person fills in more color into Suho’s grey world. They tap into different sub-genres of rock music to tell a beautiful story all while showcasing Suho’s incredible vocal range. Two B-sides that stood out particularly were “Morning Star,” which was co-written in collaboration with songwriter NODAY, and “Decanting,” which has quickly become a fan favorite for its contrasting vibe with the rest of the album.
With Grey Suit, Suho steps into the singer-songwriter frame of mind, further building on his raw talent. As he celebrates the tenth anniversary of his debut with EXO, Suho exemplifies what it means to be a grown-up idol in the industry.
