DRIPPIN Continue Their Villain Era with “ZERO”
Just five months since the release of Villain, DRIPPIN are back with Villain: ZERO, their second single album.
“ZERO” opens with a gritty guitar instrumentation before introducing a drippy-sounding beat during the first verse. One of my favorite aspects of “ZERO” is the bridge that leads into the final chorus. There’s something about the sound change, though it is only a slight change, that makes you feel like you’re almost in a new song. It draws your attention back into the song and it’s a very interesting choice.
The music video for “ZERO” appears to be a prequel to the music video for “Villain,” with “ZERO” ending where “Villain” begins—Junho looking down upon the city right before they begin to destroy it. Further supporting this (as if ending where “Villain” begins isn’t enough support) is the fact that the men DRIPPIN are seen fighting in “Villain” are also seen as sort of strict prison guards in “ZERO.” Most of the video takes place in a dystopian setting, where all of their movements are watched over, but it isn’t long until the DRIPPIN members begin fighting back and escaping the building, which they watch explode.
“GAME” and “Trick and Treat” are the other two tracks on Villain: ZERO, and both have their own drawing points. While “GAME” is a softer pop track with some tropical elements in the backing track, “Trick and Treat” will have you ready to celebrate Halloween in June. All in all, Villain: ZERO is a great follow-up to Villain…and, yes, I am still craving more releases from the rookie boy group.
