DON’T “PLAY DUMB” WITH MY HEART
For this comeback, OMEGA X switches things up by offering up a refreshing and sweet style of sound and concept for “PLAY DUMB.” Previous releases (including their debut) have been much more rough-around-the-edges, gritty and darker in style and sound, so the first impression of “PLAY DUMB” will definitely cause some doubletakes and throw people for a loop. However, this is not to say that this comeback is bad. On the contrary, “PLAY DUMB” is perfect for the summer and shows a sweeter and softer side that many normally can’t see within their musical color. “PLAY DUMB” proves that it’s not always about having something hard-hitting and that a group can put out something that is fun and carefree.
“PLAY DUMB” is all about the rush of falling in love and getting caught up in the moment of having a crush on someone. When having a crush, we often times do goofy and dumb things that may look weird to others on the outside, but in reality, you’re just going through the joys and happy emotions of feeling this way. It’s such a happy song that one can’t help but smile along as they listen to it over and over. Not to mention, it’s catchy and addictive thanks to the pop influences sprinkled through the song. It’s as if it intended to match the sound and feeling of a racing heart. The music video to “PLAY DUMB” is just as fun, colorful, and exciting as the song. In this case, what OMEGA X falls head over heels for is a meteor in the form of a (rather giant at times) tennis ball. All hilarity ensues as tennis takes the center of attention as now it’s something that infatuates them and gets them riled up. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a sports-centered concept within the K-Pop realm that it just makes OMEGA X that much more charming to see them simply having fun while performing.
Final Thoughts
If you’re worried OMEGA X has strayed away from their previous rough and darker sound, there is nothing to fear as the album features an array of songs and styles that is still very much in OMEGA X’s lane. From club bangers, angsty and gritty, to soft acoustic and R&B ballads, there is a little bit of everything. What listeners and fans will notice about Stories Written in Music is that the album starts off strong by placing all the high-energy and fast-paced songs first before eventually cooling down and mellowing out with the slower songs to help one come down from all the excitement.
As their first full-length album, OMEGA X is surely making a name for themselves and are worthy of all the hype and recognition that they are receiving. OMEGA X has potential and an untapped reserve and the group has continued to hit the ground running hard to let people know that they are a force not to be reckoned with. This album does not disappoint and is a job well done in creating an album that is just right and a great marker within the first year of their career. OMEGA X can only go up from here and many cannot wait to see what they will do next. Stories Written in Music is a solid album and much recommended for you to listen to and check out if you haven’t already.
