AB6IX Kicks Off Solo U.S. Tour in NYC

Is AB6IX our new favorite group? Most likely.

On a beautiful Monday evening in Manhattan, ABNEW eagerly lined up hours before, in anticipation for the show. This wasn’t the group’s first time in New York, but it was their very first solo fanmeet. The boys first came out to cheers from VIP ticket holders to do their soundcheck, performing singles “CHERRY” and debut title “BREATHE” to their excited fans.

After the remaining fans came in and the group prepared their outfits for the show, the quartet came out swinging by kicking off the show with their 2019 hit “HOLLYWOOD.” The song filled the air with energy and excitement, especially as fans enthusiastically sang along. The cheers didn’t stop as the members took their first ment to introduce themselves and greet the audience.

Next came the latest May release “SAVIOR,” keeping the room electric before switching up to “감아 (CLOSE).” The choreography for “감아 (CLOSE)” was definitely a killing point for many in the room. The performance of these three songs really showcased AB6IX’s talent in performance, as the songs had a much stronger punch when performed live, at least from the perspective of someone who was only a casual listener before this show. 

During the second ment, the group hosted a Q+A session. What made this one feel more intimate was that at the front of the venue, there was a board where fans could write down questions for the group before coming into the concert hall. Questions were selected from that board, so it was only fans at the show that were involved in the practice, rather than questions being pulled from online as we’ve seen in the past.

For the fans that had their questions answered, they were invited onstage and given a signed T-shirt the band prepared in front of them, and given the chance to take a photo with them as well. This definitely goes above and beyond what we’re used to seeing, even at a fanmeet.

As the show continued, the quartet performed “BREATHE,” “RED UP,” “CHERRY,” and “Sucker for your love,” among other tracks. As is customary at the end of the show, they would forego choreography to take the time to greet fans across the stage. You could tell during this time that AB6IX really does care and appreciate ABNEW, and even through most of the show they often did their best to answer fans that called for them, or give little bits of interaction when they were able to see or hear someone clearly.

The favors were definitely returned at the end of the night, as flowers and stuffed animals were thrown onstage as a gift for the members. Donghyun could be seen carrying a stuffed animal and three different bouquets of artificial flowers as he walked off the stage.

As someone who has attended many K-Pop shows in my time, I can safely say that you can’t walk away from AB6IX’s show without falling in love with them. The group has many charms, but most of all is probably their sincerity. You can really tell these boys love what they do and care about ABNEW.
