Lapillus is Ready to Take on the World in "HIT YA!"

2022 is only halfway complete and so far we've seen tons of debuts and summer anthems to jam to—with so much more still on the way! Among the list, the mighty sextet from MLD Entertainment, Lapillus, recently dropped their debut single "HIT YA!" with one of the most intense music video auras to have ever come into existence. 

Introducing Lapillus

As MLD Entertainment's first girl group in over six years after MOMOLAND, sister group Lapillus has quite an opposite personality and style that separates them significantly from  MOMOLAND's bright aura. The lineup features multinational members from around the world: Filipino-Argentinian actress and model Chanty, the Japanese former Girls Planet 999 contestant and leader Shana, Chinese-American trainee Yue, Bessie, Seowon, and Haeun. This is a very young rookie girl group, with two members only 13 and 15-years-old! 

The group’s name is Latin for, “A jewel that changes color depending on the light.” Fans learned more about the group’s lore in their logo and introductory video, which shows a ray of light suddenly appearing in the dark resembling the universe. One of the lights is divided into six branches with mysterious background music, with each light representing a member before changing to the group name, symbolizing them all.

With such a promising lineup of girls and a girl crush concept, Lapillus is on their way to becoming a leading fourth generation girl group. After all, their international fanbase is already from a diverse lineup! 

"HIT YA!" 

A heavily EDM-inspired single with intense 808 beats and rough electric guitar, "HIT YA!" will surprise you with its twists and turns throughout the track. Written by MEANG CO and AVEC's Bull$EyE, Ondine, and Monkey Vegas, the single conveys the members' confidence and ambition as incoming rookies, musically standing out from any K-Pop track in the music world. You're more likely to hear a track like this released by famous EDM DJs that solely create dance-pop and trap hits. The most repetitive part of the song is the addictive, "Hit ya!" hook that rounds out the track, pacing the upbeat energy from start to finish. There's a lot of empty spaces in the track where we typically hear verses, leaving it up to your imagination on what to expect at first impression. 

It comes as no surprise that in just under a week, their debut music video for "HIT YA!" gained almost 9 million views on YouTube! In a universe that's neon purple and pink, the lore for Lapillus's A.I.-inspired world is being introduced. The visuals of every single member are flawless in each close-up shot—which makes sense because these girls are absolutely out of this world. The video focuses more on the choreography, editing special effects onto the clips to make the dance moves pop like a 3D film. Lapillus is certain to shock the world with such a surprising storyline and different sound style choices.

With such a strong and intriguing girl crush concept, there's no doubt that their next hits will bust out all the stops to make a legacy of their own. Even though their single is missing more vocal lines to focus on the one-of-a-kind EDM-emphasized sound, they've shown fans that they are able to dance with fierce passion in their eyes. One song is not enough to determine their overall sound, so until their first official comeback, let's cheer on the on-the-rise rookies, Lapillus!
