E’LAST Talks New Album, Favorite B-Sides, and the Future
It’s not every day one gets to interview one of their favorite K-Pop groups, but when the opportunity arose to interview E’LAST, I knew we had to grab it. With the second anniversary of their debut fast approaching and fresh off promotions for their latest mini-album [ROAR], E’LAST sat down with The Kraze. Keep on reading to learn more about the rookie boy group!
Q: Could you please introduce yourselves to The Kraze readers?
Rano: Hello!! We are E’LAST, and we made a comeback with our third mini-album, [ROAR].
Q: ️For readers who might not be familiar with E’LAST’s music, how would you describe your style as a group?
Baek Gyeul: Our music contains many songs that incorporate concepts and styles unique to E’LAST. After listening to our songs, you may realize that it will be hard to stop listening. Haha. We hope you listen to it!
Q: You recently released your third mini-album, [ROAR], and I loved the music video for “Creature!” Could you talk about the title track and the album?
Rano: To talk about our album first, [ROAR] is an album that shows and “roars” the climax of E’LAST’s concept storyline. Its title track, “Creature,” is a song that tells the story of how E’LAST, who are exhausted by countless conflicts, come into conflict with our inner selves after turning into creatures. We show a new side of E’LAST that is unlike before, so please give lots of love and support.
Q: Your music video for “Creature” sees you guys as werewolves. Are there any other creatures you would want to become?
Seung Yeop: I would like to become a butterfly that can fly over to ELRING anytime.
Q: Some of the members have also taken part in songwriting. How was that experience for you?
Won Jun: Although I participated in writing the lyrics for our previous album, I think I paid extra attention when writing the lyrics for this album. I had so much fun writing it, and I want to participate again in the lyrics for our next album.
Q: Your three mini-albums have included an intro track to set the tone for the rest of the album. Do you have a favorite intro track out of them?
Baek Gyeul: The intro track in our debut album was memorable and still touching.
Q: What was the hardest moment in preparing for this comeback?
Romin: The hardest moment was when we didn’t get adequate sleep. It was most challenging during the four days with only about five hours due to the promotion schedule that requires us to work until late and wake up at dawn.
Q: As a big ELRING, my favorite B-side was “Dangerous” and it was my most repeated track on Spotify for 2020, but then you released “Shelter.” Do you have a favorite B-side?
Choi In: My favorite B-side track is “Nightmare!”
Seung Yeop: It’s “Poison.”
Rano: My favorite B-side track is also “Shelter.”
Baek Gyeul: It’s “Nightmare!!!”
Romin: Performance-wise, it’s “Dangerous,” and to choose solely on the song itself, it’s “Poison.”
Won Hyuk: My favorite is still “Dangerous” for me!
Won Jun: It’s “Nightmare.”
Ye Jun: It’s “Desire.”
Q: Last year we saw the debut of sub-unit E’LAST U. Are there any future plans for another sub-unit? Who in the group would you like to form a sub-unit with and why?
Ye Jun: I want to try forming a new four-member unit group, including myself and the three other members that weren’t a part of E’LAST U. While E’LAST U’s songs were soft and sentimental, I think there are members who are suited for songs that are powerful.
Q: Any concerts planned in the future? I know I’d love to see E’LAST live!
Choi In: Starting with our Japan concert, which has been officially announced, we are planning concerts and performances in Korea and abroad, so we would love for people to take an interest and come see us!
Q: Is there a song you’re most looking forward to performing live?
Seung Yeop: I’m most looking forward to our sexy live performance of “Poison.”
Q: What are some K-Pop songs you are listening to right now?
Rano: I’ve been listening to “Candy Sugar Pop” by ASTRO a lot.
Q: Who are some senior K-Pop artists or groups you look up to the most?
Won Hyuk: I look up to the soloist WOODZ (Cho Seungyoun) and the K-Pop group ATEEZ the most!
Q: What are some of your favorite guilty pleasure snacks?
Won Jun: My favorite is Haribo’s Fruity-Bussi. I eat them a lot when I’m bored or on my days off.
Q: Which fictional character would you be most excited to meet in real life?
Romin: Cruella. I want to learn about fashion from Cruella.
Q: ️Do you have final thoughts for ELRINGs?
Rano: ELRING, it’s almost been two years since we’ve debuted, and you know that E’LAST was able to come all this way thanks to you, right?? We are so grateful, and since the COVID-19 situation is getting better, we will create many opportunities to meet you, so please look forward to it!
On behalf of The Kraze, I want to say a big thank you to E’LAST for sitting down with us and answering our questions.
