B-Sides: Sunmi

With Sunmi currently on the European stretch of her Good Girl Gone Mad tour—having just performed in London, England on August 21—this week's article will be taking a look at some of Sunmi's best B-sides.

"What The Flower" - Sunmi

"What The Flower" is the B-side to Sunmi's 2021 single release “TAIL.” It’s a soulful, jazzy track, perfect for a coffee shop or jazz bar setting. The song carries a great blend of keyboard, electric guitar, and drum sounds to create this slick R&B and electronic-infused jazz composition that opens with an incredible keyboard arrangement, instantly pulling you into the song.

"Black Pearl" - Sunmi

"Black Pearl" is a B-side from Sunmi's 2018 EP WARNING; a smooth, city pop track that displays a calmer, more laidback side to Sunmi's vocals. The track carries a tone of simplicity, in the great sense that it's not over-complicated by an abundance of sonic elements. Instead, we get to feel the beat and take in Sunmi's voice, as intended. The addition of the saxophone and a heavy bass against the city pop elements add a great jazz feel to the song.

"Call" - Sunmi

Taken from Sunmi’s most recent EP, 1/6, “Call” is a retro-pop, nu-disco, dance B-side that highlights Sunmi’s disappointment in a relationship and wanting out of it. This track carries major British vibes with its electronic melody and tropical sounds in the post-chorus, and would definitely be played on a British reality show or at a fun fair if given the opportunity. The song also features an interesting use of a phone call tone, playing along with the lyrics, “Where are you going, boy? And why don’t you pick up the phone?” It’s a fun song to vibe to while also providing tones of relaxation.
