K-Indie and R&B For the Soul

Need some relaxing vibes to get you to the end of the week? Need a few comfort songs to recover with? You’ve landed in the right place. Enjoy some cozy throwback K-Indie and R&B slow jams this Thursday.

“Perfect Timing” - Hoody

Departure, Hoody’s magnificent 2019 album, and her first full-length release, provided various R&B tracks for every mood. The album's opening title, “Perfect Timing,” enters on a soft note, making for a dream-like introduction to the record. Hoody’s memorable and melodic voice is perfect listening material for those looking for something refreshing or soothing.

“I’m Watching a Loneliness Just Arisen” - SE SO NEON

If you’re unfamiliar with K-Indie/K-Rock group SE SO NEON, the Summer Plumage EP is a great place to start. This album features six tracks, including the viral hit from 2017 “A Long Dream.” For “I’m Watching a Loneliness Just Arisen,” frontwoman Soyoon’s distinct voice really shines against the backdrop of simple acoustics and slow drums.

This track is excellent, but definitely check out the rest of SE SO NEON’s music for more gems!

“The Open Boat” - Anda (Feat. Primary and Colde)

Solo artist Anda’s 2018 collaborative release with Primary, Do Worry Be Happy, carries a strong sense of effortless freedom and hopefulness throughout its four tracks. Colde and Anda’s beautiful harmonies blend easily with the synth-heavy sound, conveying the message behind the lyrics to “touch the sky” and be free from what holds us back. “The Open Boat” is a great song to listen to if you want to release the weight off your shoulders.

“Sleep” - Night Off

For those interested in a melancholy tune to help soothe and comfort, “Sleep” by Night Off offers a reprieve to shed the burden on one's heart and hide for a moment. Night Off does not have a large discography at the moment, but the 2018 EP The Last Night has a short yet sweet tracklist of somber K-Rock tracks to vibe to and let those emotions out.

Check out the beautiful and cinematic video for “Sleep” below.

“Honey Tea” - OOHYO

OOHYOs jazzy, Bossanova-inspired sound is one you (or maybe that’s just the author’s opinion) could listen to forever, with her refined voice and deeply soothing lyrics. “Honey Tea” describes making a cup of tea and getting lost in nostalgia through the process, pondering both feelings of loss and bittersweet happiness while taking in the flavors.

“RAL 9002” - youra (feat. HEIZE)

“RAL 9002” is the final track on youra’s GAUSSIAN EP, closing out the album on a somber note. GAUSSIAN features a variety of genres, but “RAL 9002” leans into jazz and R&B-inspired sounds that are usually found within HEIZE’s own music. The alluring vocals of these two soloists make the perfect pair for this track, creating a song you could get lost in.
