CAMO Captivates LA During her First North American Wifey Tour

On a quiet Tuesday night in Los Angeles in a rather nondescript location called 1720, an intimate show of an up and coming hip-hop artist came to light. Park Chaeryung, known as CAMO, arrived to a warmed up crowd excited to hear her music live for the first time. As the first stop of her first North American Wifey Tour, CAMO showed why she’s been gaining popularity overseas and stateside. Though K-Pop live concerts have been spreading like wildfire, K-Hip-Hop has not yet reached its pre-pandemic levels, especially for female soloists. CAMO, with her engaging presence, gave the crowd all the love that they could have possibly hoped for with this show and proved that she had the pull to carry off this successful tour.

As doors opened, the night started off with DJ openers Air Banks and Yungricain. As CAMO had released the lineup times earlier in the day, more people began filtering in as the music went on. It wouldn’t be until the special guest of the night, Sangstaa, took the mic that the audience really began to engage. Speaking to the crowd, he had a natural rhythm that resonated with them. With songs such as “Oops,” Sangstaa really got the ball moving for the night.

Another guest on the lineup was JMIN. WIth feet that just couldn’t stay still, JMIN moved back and forth, anxious not to miss anyone in the crowd. As an artist who has been featured in and has featured CAMO in his music, it was clearly understandable why the audience was so excited. Ready to hype everyone further, JMIN started out spraying bottles of water and kept the energy on high as he jumped into songs such as “Don’t Worry,” “Blast Off,” and “Dedication.” All recordings featured artists, such as Jay Park on “Dedication,” but JMIN had no issues performing them solo. Ending his set with “Life is Wet,” which he features on with CAMO, the queen of the night took to the stage for this collaboration amidst cheers.

CAMO started her set with “Horizon” to a house that now was packed to the back bar, filled with fans eager to get a glimpse of her live. CAMO continued on to songs such as “So Fast (feat. Leellamarz, The Quiett),” “Fragile (Prod. Dayrick),” “Backdoor (Prod. Dayrick),” “Shawty (feat. Coogie),” “FREAK LIKE ME,” and of course the tour’s namesake song “Wifey,” which originally features Simon Dominic. Those at the front of the pit got as much love as possible from CAMO. She was constantly there taking phones and selfies, giving and receiving love, taking hands and showing everyone how much she appreciated the time she had with them. As a special treat to those in attendance, CAMO sang an unreleased R&B song which ended with people yelling, “I loved your song!” This was a peek into the album she stated would be released in October. Chatting with the crowd, after going through some of the tracklist of the night, it was soon time for the next song. Bringing JMIN back on stage for their song “Life is Wet,” they had everyone cheering before ending the night with “TIffany Cartier.”

As the venue was intimate, after the show, CAMO came out to take selfies and chat with excited fans. Though her first stateside show, CAMO showed no nerves, and her pure love of the music and those who came to see her were present. As an artist who is starting with such depth to her sound and who has been releasing tracks with great K-Hip Hop artists, this was a great kick-off to her tour. If her next album has more songs like the unreleased tracks gifted that night, there is much to look forward to in the months to come.
